''The Anthology of Indian Classical Music – A Tribute to Alain Daniélou'' is the 1997 edition of Alain Danielou's ''Anthology of Indian Classical Music''. Background This collection was originally recorded by Alain Danielou for the International Music Council (UNESCO) between 1950 and 1955, and was published in 1966. As a tribute to Alain Daniélou, UNESCO re-issued the album on 1997 as ''Anthology of Indian Classical Music - A Tribute to Alain Daniélou''. The introductory text is by Serge Moreux. Indian Classical Music
Indian classical music is the classical music of the Indian subcontinent. It has two major traditions: the North Indian classical music known as '' Hindustani'' and the South Indian expression known as '' Carnatic''. These traditions were not distinct until about the 15th century. During the period of Mughal rule of the Indian subcontinent, the traditions separated and evolved into distinct forms. Hindustani music emphasizes improvisation and exploration of all aspects of a raga, while Carnatic performances tend to be short composition-based. However, the two systems continue to have more common features than differences. Alain Daniélou
Alain Daniélou (4 October 1907 – 27 January 1994) was a French historian, Indologist, intellectual, musicologist, translator, writer, and notable Western convert to and expert on the Shaivite sect of Hinduism. In 1991 he was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, the highest honour conferred by Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama. Raghunath Prasanna
Pandit Raghunath Prasanna (1913 – June 1999) was an Indian classical shehnai and flute player. He was known for using the techniques of shehnai in flute playing, also inspired by vocal music. Personal life and family Raghunath was born in 1913 in Varanasi in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He was married to Saraswati Devi. They had seven children. One of them is the flute and shehnai player Rajendra Prasanna, whose son Rishab, Rajesh and Ritesh play the bansuri. Career Raghunath Prasanna got his musical training from his father Gauri Shanker, a shehnai player, and from Dauji Mishra from Varanasi. He was the first person in the family to introduce the art of flute (tripura bansuri and Krishna bansuri) in the family tradition, known until then for shehnai playing. Dattatreya Rama Rao Parvatikar ( sa, दत्तात्रेय राम राव् पर्वतिकर्, ) 916-1990 was a Hindu saint and sanyasi in India. Spiritual life Dattatreya Parvatikar lived in the premises of Badrinath Temple of The Himalayas. He was fondly called ''veena baaba'' by his spiritual followers. Music Parvatikar, an exponent of nada yoga, tried to spread spirituality through music. He was keenly interested in Indian classical music and played the rudra veena.
