Henry Antes
Henry Antes (1701–July 20, 1755) was an early 18th-century settler of Pennsylvania, an architect and builder and a leader of the Congregation of God in the Spirit and then the Moravian Church. He is considered one of the most important religious/political leaders of the time, specifically because he preached tolerance and understanding. His home, Henry Antes House, is recognized as one of the first interracial and nonsectarian boys schools in Pennsylvania and possibly in America. Upon invitation of Antes's son Colonel Frederick Antes, George Washington and his troops stayed at Henry Antes house from September 23 to 26, 1777, during the Philadelphia Campaign. Horst Antes
Horst Antes (born 28 October 1936 Heppenheim, Germany) is a German artist and sculptor. After his Abitur, he studied from 1957 to 1959 under the important woodcutter HAP Grieshaber at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste (today known as the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe) in Karlsruhe. In 1959, the artist's work was honoured with two prizes, art prize of the city of Hanover and the Pankofer prize on the occasion of the German Youth Art prize. In his early paintings, Antes sought a path somewhere between figurative painting and the L'Art Informel. One of his most important role models was Willem de Kooning. Around 1960 Antes discovered his 'Kopffüßler' (literal translation: Head-Footer), a form which preoccupied the artist in numerous variations and artistic techniques. John Antes Latrobe
John Antes Latrobe (1799–1878) was an English cleric and writer on music. Life The son of Christian Ignatius Latrobe and his wife Hannah Benigna Sims, he was born in London in 1799; Peter Latrobe (1795–1863) the minister and Charles Joseph La Trobe were brothers. He was named after his father's uncle John Antes. He received his education at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, and graduated B.A. in 1826, M.A. 1829. He was ordained deacon in the Church of England by George Henry Law, in 1826, served as curate at Bristol Temple that year, and became chaplain to George Sandford, 3rd Baron Mount Sandford in 1829. As a curate, Latrobe served also at Melton Mowbray, Tintern, and other places. He became incumbent of St. Thomas's Church, Kendal, a post which he held from 1840 to 1865. In 1858 he was made an honorary canon of Carlisle Cathedral. Latrobe died, unmarried, at Gloucester, where he had been living in retirement, on 19 November 1878.
