Annie Hughes
Annie Hughes is an American ultrarunner, based in Leadville, Colorado. She is the youngest woman to win the Leadville 100 and Moab 240 races, and previously held the fastest known time for the Collegiate Loop. Life and running career Hughes attended Adams State University and ran track there for a year. She ran her first ultra while in university. In 2019 she won the Jemez 50 Mile, placing 6th overall, and soon became active in her local ultrarunning community. She has been mentored by runners Olga King and Courtney Dauwalter. In 2020 she ran the fastest known time on the 167-mile Collegiate Loop in Colorado. Adams State University is a public university in Alamosa, Colorado. The university's Adams State Grizzlies athletic teams compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. History Adams State was founded in 1921 as a teacher's college. Billy Adams, a Colorado legislator who would later become a three-term governor of Colorado, worked for three decades before obtaining the authorization to found Adams State Normal School in 1921, to provide higher education opportunities for teachers from remote and rural areas of Colorado, such as the San Luis Valley, and see them work in those same areas. Courtney Dauwalter
Courtney Dauwalter (born February 13, 1985) is an American ultramarathon runner. Early life Dauwalter was raised in Hopkins, Minnesota and competed in track, cross-country, and nordic skiing in high school. She was a four-time Minnesota state champion in nordic skiing during her high school career. She attended the University of Denver on a cross-country skiing scholarship, and then earned a master's degree in teaching from the University of Mississippi in 2010 while participating in the Mississippi Teacher Corps. Dauwalter worked as a middle and high-school teacher in the Denver area before becoming a full-time professional runner in 2017. Ultrarunning In 2016, Dauwalter set a course record at the Javelina Jundred 100K and won the Run Rabbit Run 100-mile race, finishing 75 minutes ahead of second place.
