Annesley
Annesley is a village and civil parish in the Ashfield district of Nottinghamshire, England, between Hucknall and Kirkby-in-Ashfield. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 1,162 (including Annesley Woodhouse to the west). Annesley Hall is a grade two listed building, once owned by the Chaworth-Musters family, which has connections to the Byron family of nearby Newstead Abbey. Annesley Old Church was mentioned by Lord Byron and D. H. Lawrence. There is also close by the earthworks of Annesley Castle. The Misk Hills lie to the south of the village. Annesley is part of Nottinghamshire's Hidden Valleys area. The parish is grouped with the neighbouring parish of Felley to elect a joint parish council. The old church of Annesley was dedicated to All Saints. It was allowed to become derelict in the 1940s. Annesley Malewana () ( Sinhala: ඇනස්ලි මාලේවන) is a Sri Lankan musician. Often considered "The Prince of Sinhala Pop", Malewana is well known for being a master of contemporary Baila worked with popular musical bands The Moonstones and Super Golden Chimes. Personal life Malewana was born on June 13, 1947 in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka and attended St. Joseph's College, Colombo. He is married to Swarnamali and the couple has one son and one daughter. Musical career Upon leaving school, he met Clarence Wijewardena, and the two formed the group Moonstones in 1966. In the early 1960s, the Moonstones began performing songs composed by Wijewardena and sung by Malewana. Their first hit was ''Mango Nanda'', a song written about the maid who once worked at the home of Clarence's wife in the early days of their relationship. Louie John Annesley (born 3 May 2000) is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for League of Ireland Premier Division side Dundalk. Born in England , he represents the Gibraltar national team. For the national team, he has also been utilised as a holding midfielder. Lady Clare Annesley (30 June 1893 – 7 August 1980) was a British pacifist and socialist activist. Born at Castlewellan, Lady Clare was the daughter of Hugh Annesley, 5th Earl Annesley and Priscilla Cecilia Armytage Moore. Annesley Railway Station
Annesley railway station was a station in Annesley, Nottinghamshire. It was opened in 1874, to serve the mining village of Annesley which had grown following the opening of Annesley colliery in 1865. It was closed in 1953 as part of the post-war cutback, and the line closed to passengers in 1964. The station did not reopen as part of the Robin Hood Line project in the 1990s. History Opened by the Midland Railway, it became part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway during the Grouping of 1923.
