Anne M. Schot (born 1966) is a Netherlanders#Terminology in Dutch and other languages, Dutch botanist. Early life Anne M Schot was born on 20 September 1966 in Leidschendam, a town in South Holland province, Netherlands (Leidschendam has effectively become a suburb of The Hague, Den Haag). She completed her diploma at the Stedelijk Gymnasium Leiden in 1984. In 1985 she started studies in Biology at ''Leiden University, Universiteit Leiden''. Pieter Baas
Pieter Baas (born 28 April 1944) is a Dutch botanist. He is an emeritus professor of plant systematics at Leiden University. He served as director of the of Leiden University between 1991 and 1999. When the institute was faced with budget cuts in 1993 he managed to preserve the collection by joining it with the university collections of Wageningen and Utrecht. This led to the founding of the National Herbarium of the Netherlands in 1999. Baas subsequently became director of the institute and served until 2005. As a botanist Baas specializes in wood anatomy. Early life and career Baas was born on 28 April 1944 in the municipality of Wieringermeer. He attended the MULO and later the HBS. Baas grew up with a broad interest in science. Paulus Johannes Maria "Paul" Maas (born 27 February 1939, in Arnhem) is a botanist from the Netherlands and a specialist in the flora of the neotropics. Maas has identified and named about two hundred fifty plants from the Burmanniaceae, the Costus Family (Costaceae), the Gentian Family (Gentianaceae), the Bloodwort Family (Haemodoraceae), the Banana Family (Musaceae), the Olacaceae, the Triuridaceae, and the Ginger Family (Zingiberaceae The Annonaceae and saprotrophic plants from the neotropics, such as the Burmanniaceae, are two major areas of research. Hortus Botanicus Leiden
The Hortus botanicus of Leiden is the oldest botanical garden of the Netherlands, and one of the oldest in the world. It is located in the southwestern part of the historical centre of the city, between the Academy building and the old Leiden Observatory building. History In 1587 the young University of Leiden asked for permission from the mayor of Leiden to establish a ''hortus academicus'' behind the university building, for the benefit of the medical students.
