Calallen ( ) is a former town that existed until the 1960s. Today, Calallen is an outlying portion of the larger city of Corpus Christi. It is located in Nueces County, in the Coastal Bend region of Texas. It is bound to the north by the Nueces River, which also marks the boundary between Nueces County and San Patricio County. History The community was named for Calvin Joseph “Cal” Allen (18591922), a noted rancher who was born and raised about three miles up the Nueces River from the future townsite. He established a spread where he herded wild cattle and cultivated his herds. He was among the first to bring fine-blooded stock into South Texas for the improvement of beef brands. The ''New Encyclopedia of Texas'' (1929) described Allen as "one of the most beloved characters of the old Southwest." Tuloso-Midway High School
Tuloso-Midway High School is a public high school in Corpus Christi, Texas and is part of the Tuloso-Midway Independent School District. History Tuloso-Midway Independent School District began in 1887 when a schoolhouse was constructed on donated land in the Tuloso area. The school's first teacher was an individual named Murdock who taught nine students for a six-month term. Twenty-seven years later, in 1914, the first Midway school was established in an adjacent community. In 1938, the Tuloso and Midway communities planned the formation of the Tuluso-Midway Independent School District. By 1947, the district had come into being. Two years later, in 1949, the school district had its first graduating class consisting of five students. Tuluso-Midway Independent School District continued to expand in May 1969, absorbing the Clarkwood Independent School District and the Violet Common School District.
