The Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education (AVRCE) (formerly Annapolis Valley Regional School Board) is the public school district responsible for the approximately 40 elementary, middle level, and high schools in Annapolis County, Kings County, and the West Hants Municipal District of Hants County in Nova Scotia, Canada. Berwick, Nova Scotia
Berwick is a Canadian town in Kings County, Nova Scotia. The town is located in the eastern part of the Annapolis Valley on the Cornwallis River. The town site stretches south from the river and Exit 15 of Highway 101 to Highway 1. Berwick occupies 6.80 km2 (2.6 sq mi) and has an elevation of 43 m (141 ft) above sea level. History As the headwaters of the Cornwallis River, Berwick was used by Nova Scotia's Mi'kmaq people and later Acadians as a crossing place between the Cornwallis and the Annapolis River which rises to the west. Acadians built a rough road between the two rivers just to the south of the town, a route which after British settlement became The Post Road or Highway No. 1 the main road connected western communities in Nova Scotia. Cornwallis Park is a rural community in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada. As of the 2021 Canadian census, 2021 census, the population was 488, an increase of 1.9% from 2016. History The community is located on the western edge of Clementsport, Nova Scotia, Clementsport and immediately east of Deep Brook, Nova Scotia, Deep Brook. It was formerly named Cornwallis after a military base was established as in 1942 and becoming CFB Cornwallis in 1968 (it was mothballed from 1946 to 1949). After CFB Cornwallis closed in 1994 the property was converted to civilian use. Coldbrook is a Canadian suburban community in Kings County, Nova Scotia. At the 2021 census, the population was 1,206. History A large farm in the area was named "Colebrook" after a community in Wales, but the village became known as Cold Brook Station in 1869 when the Windsor and Annapolis Railway arrived. The railway led to growth of two saw mills and a large apple export warehouse built in 1908 as well as a bulk oil depot in the late 1920s for White Rose Gasoline. The United Fruit Companies apple growers co-op built a pair of large warehouses and a processing plant at Coldbrook in 1946. This plant later became the Scotian Gold Co-operative plant in 1957, which remains a large employer at its plant and retail store. Coldbrook became the "end of track" for the Dominion Atlantic Railway in March 1990 when the line abandoned all of its tracks west of Coldbrook. Rail service ended completely in 1993. Central Kings Rural High School (CKRHS) is a secondary school located in Cambridge, Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada. It serves students from grades 6 to 12. CK's students come from the Somerset, Cambridge, Waterville, Coldbrook and North/South Alton areas of Kings County. Cambridge is a community on the Cornwallis River in Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada, located 12 kilometres west of Kentville. It is administratively part of the village of Cornwallis Square. According to one source, the community was named after Cambridge, England. while another holds it was named for Cambridge, Massachusetts. History The community first appears on maps about 1795. A large estate by the Marshall Family along the old post road (later Highway No. 1) was the first major farm in the area. Trunk 1 is part of the Canada, Canadian province of Nova Scotia's system of List of Nova Scotia provincial highways#Trunk Highways, Trunk Highways. Kentville, Nova Scotia
Kentville is an incorporated town in Nova Scotia. It is the most populous town in the Annapolis Valley. As of 2021, the town's population was 6,630. Its census agglomeration is 26,929. History Kentville owes its location to the Cornwallis River which, downstream from Kentville, becomes a large tidal river at the Minas Basin. The riverbank at the current location of Kentville provided an easy fording point. The Mi'kmaq name for the location was "Penooek". The ford and later the bridge in Kentville made the area an important crossroads for other settlements in the Annapolis Valley. Kentville also marked the limit of navigation of sailing ships.
