Kingsmill Championship
The Pure Silk Championship was a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour, played in Williamsburg, Virginia. The 72-hole tournament was held on the par-71 River Course at Kingsmill Resort, set at in 2013 LPGA Tour, 2013. Previously known as the "Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill," the tournament was founded in 2003 LPGA Tour, 2003 and played for seven seasons. Absent in 2010 LPGA Tour, 2010 and 2011 LPGA Tour, 2011, it returned for the 2012 LPGA Tour, 2012 season in early September, and switched to early May in 2013 LPGA Tour, 2013. 2007 Women's British Open
The 2007 Women's British Open was the 31st Women's British Open, held 2–5 August at the Old Course at St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. It was the seventh as a major championship on the LPGA Tour and the first-ever women's professional event at the Old Course. Lorena Ochoa shot a bunker-free and bogey-free 67 (−6) in the opening round and led wire-to-wire to win the first of her two major titles, four strokes ahead of runners-up Maria Hjorth and Jee Young Lee. Prior to Ochoa, the last to win a first major at the Old Course was Tony Lema, 43 years earlier in 1964. LPGA Tour Championship
The LPGA Tour Championship, in full the LPGA Tour Championship Presented by Rolex, was the season-ending women's professional golf tournament on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour. After two seasons it was discontinued, replaced by the CME Group Titleholders in 2011. The tournament was created in 2009 to replace the ADT Championship, which was discontinued after ADT decided not to extend its sponsorship. The LPGA Tour Championship was not considered an extension of the ADT and its inaugural edition was in 2009. Stanford Financial and SEC action In November 2008 Stanford Financial was announced as the new sponsor of the tournament with a purse of $2 million. On February 17, 2009 the Securities and Exchange Commission accused Stanford chairman Allen R. Stanford in an $8 billion investment fraud scheme, and the Houston offices of Stanford Financial were raided and the firm's assets were frozen. 2009 Solheim Cup
The 11th Solheim Cup Matches were held August 21–23, 2009 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois, west of Chicago. The biennial matches are a three-day team competition for professional female golfers, pitting the 12 best players born in the United States against the 12 best players of European nationality. The United States claimed the Cup for the third consecutive meeting, winning 16–12. Entering the final day, the competition was tied at 8 points each, but the U.S. won eight of the dozen singles matches to retain the Solheim Cup. Teams The United States and European teams were selected by different methods. Team USA qualified by earning points for wins and for top-20 finishes on the LPGA Tour over a two-year period. Women's golf has a set of major championships which parallels that in men's golf, with the women's system newer and less stable than the men's. As of 2013, five tournaments are designated as majors in women's golf by the LPGA Tour. LPGA majors Current position The LPGA's list of majors has changed several times over the years. Azahara Muñoz Guijarro (born 19 November 1987) is a Spanish professional golfer on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour. Amateur career Muñoz was born in Málaga, Andalusia in southern Spain and had a successful amateur career in both Europe and the United States. She won the 2002 Spanish Amateur title at age 14, the 2004 Girls Amateur Championship, and was the 2009 British Ladies Amateur champion. NCAA Women's Golf Championship
The NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, played in the month of May, is the annual competition in women's collegiate golf for individuals and teams from universities in Division I. Golf was one of twelve women's sports added to the NCAA championship program for the 1981-82 school year. From its inception through 2014, it was a stroke play team competition with an additional individual award. Beginning in 2015, after 72 holes of stroke play, the top eight teams play in single-elimination match play to determine the team champion. Caroline Hedwall
Caroline Ingrid Hedwall (born 13 May 1989) is a Swedish professional golfer who plays on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and the LPGA Tour. In 2013 she became the first player to win five matches in a single Solheim Cup event. As an amateur she was a dominating player, winning the European Ladies Amateur Championship as well as the individual titles at both the Espirito Santo Trophy and the NCAA Championship.
