Anna Mkapa
Anna Mkapa (born Anna Joseph Maro) served as the third First Lady of Tanzania from 1995 to 2005. She is the widow of former President Benjamin Mkapa. First Lady of Tanzania (1995-2005) As First Lady of Tanzania, Anna Mkapa was a strong advocate for improving the lives of children and women. In 1997, she founded the nonprofit Equal Opportunity for All Trust Fund (EOTF). She promoted women's economic, social, and political status. She helped female entrepreneurs, increased female representation in parliament, and ensured maternal healthcare and reproductive rights were included in the White Ribbon Alliance's healthcare initiative. Salma Kikwete
Salma Kikwete (born 30 November 1963) is a Tanzanian educator, activist, and politician who served as the First Lady of Tanzania from 2005 to 2015 as the wife of Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete. Salma Kikwete originally worked as a teacher for more than twenty years. In 2005, the government launched a national campaign for voluntary HIV/ AIDS testing in Dar es Salaam. Salma Kikwete and her husband were among the first in the country to be tested. As of 2009, she was Vice President of the Eastern Region of the Organisation of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA). Benjamin Mkapa
Benjamin William Mkapa (12 November 193824 July 2020) was the third president of Tanzania, in office from 1995 to 2005. He was Chairman of the Revolutionary State Political Party ( Chama Cha Mapinduzi, CCM). Early life Mkapa was born in Lupaso, near Masasi, Tanganyika, on 12 November 1938. He graduated from Makerere University in Uganda in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He went on to study at Columbia University the following year, and earned a master's degree in International Affairs. Previous posts include being an administrative officer in Dodoma and the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education. Swahili Language
Swahili, also known by its local name , is the native language of the Swahili people, who are found primarily in Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique (along the East African coast and adjacent litoral islands). It is a Bantu language, though Swahili has borrowed a number of words from foreign languages, particularly Arabic, but also words from Portuguese, English and German. Wartburg College is a private Lutheran liberal arts college in Waverly, Iowa. It has an additional campus, Wartburg West, in Denver, Colorado. History Wartburg College was founded in 1852 in Saginaw, Michigan, by Georg M. Grossmann, a native of Neuendettelsau, Bavaria. Briar Cliff University is a private Franciscan university in Sioux City, Iowa. History In March 1929, Mother Mary Dominica Wieneke, Major Superior of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Dubuque, Iowa, along with the Most Rev. Edmond Heelan, Bishop of the Sioux City Diocese, co-founded Briar Cliff College after meeting with members of the Sioux City community, who committed to raising $25,000 to support the establishment of a Catholic women's college in Sioux City. The twelve foundresses of the college were carefully chosen by Mother Dominica. They were led by Sister Mary Servatius Greenen, who was named the first president.
