High School of Science ( tr, Fen Lisesi - FL; after the founding of other science high schools in Turkey also referred as Ankara High School of Science nkara Fen Lisesi - (A)FL is a public boarding high school in Ankara, Turkey with a curriculum concentrated on natural sciences and mathematics for top-notch students. It was established in 1964 as the first science high school in Turkey with a funding from the Ford Foundation. The school is modeled after the American counterparts like the Bronx High School of Science. Due to the considerable success of its alumni in all aspects of professional life and academia, science high school concept is spread around the country and now there are public and private science high schools in all major cities. The Bronx High School of Science, commonly called Bronx Science, is a public specialized high school in The Bronx in New York City. It is operated by the New York City Department of Education. Admission to Bronx Science involves passing the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test. Tekin Dereli (November 30, 1949) is a Turkish theoretical physicist. Life and academic career He studied at Ankara Science High School and the Middle East Technical University. Halil Mete Soner is a Turkish American mathematician born in Ankara. A conscientious objector (often shortened to conchie) is an "individual who has claimed the right to refuse to perform military service" on the grounds of freedom of thought, conscience, or religion. The term has also been extended to objecting to working for the military–industrial complex due to a crisis of conscience.
