Angelos Vertzos
Angelis Vertzos ( el, Άγγελος Βέρτζος, born 27 May 1983) is a Greek professional footballer who plays as a centre-back. Career He played the majority of his career in the Beta and Gamma Ethniki championships. However, in 2011, his team Doxa Drama was promoted to the Greek Superleague as a result of the Koriopolis scandal, despite finishing third in the promotion playoffs of the previous year. On 7 January 2014, Veria announced the return of Vertzos to the club as he signed a contract for one-and-a-half years. His contract expired on 31 June 2015 and it wasn't renewed. On 22 July 2015 he signed a two-year contract with AEL. A year later, on 6 August 2016, Vertzos left the club by mutual agreement. The Football League ( el, Φούτμπολ Λιγκ) was the second highest professional football league in Greece since its inception in 1962 as ''Beta Ethniki'' and until 2019. 2010–11 Football League (Greece)
The 2010–11 Football League is the second division of the Greek professional football system and the first season under the name Football League after previously being known as ''Beta Ethniki''. Its regular season began on 12 September 2010 and ended on 15 May 2011; the promotion play-offs, originally scheduled to take place immediately afterwards, were postponed to late July 2011 in wake of the Koriopolis scandal. Teams A total of three teams gained promotion to the 2010–11 Super League after the 2009–10 Beta Ethniki season. Koriopolis ( el, Κοριόπολις) is the name given by the Greek press to a match fixing scandal in Greek football that came to light in June 2011. The investigation centres on offences that include illegal gambling, fraud, extortion and money laundering. The name Koriopolis is a pun on the name of the Italian scandal of Calciopoli in 2006, and the Greek word ''korios'' (phone tap). History The investigation was launched after UEFA, the sports governing body in Europe, published a report that indicated at least 40 matches were fixed in the country during the 2009–10 season. The Super League Greece 1 ( el, Ελληνική Σούπερ Λιγκ 1), or Super League 1, is the highest professional association football league in Greece. The league was formed on 16 July 2006 and replaced ''Alpha Ethniki'' at the top of the Greek football league system. It consists of 14 teams and runs from August to May, with teams playing 26 games.
