Angelos Roufos
Angelos Roufos ( el, Άγγελος Ρούφος, born c. 1852) was a Greek politician from Achaea. He was born in about 1852 in Patras to Benizelos Roufos, the scion of a well-established local political family. He was elected three times to the Greek Parliament. In 1899, he stood for election as mayor of Patras but lost because the family vote was divided between him and his brother Athanasios Kanakaris-Roufos. Achaea
Achaea () or Achaia (), sometimes transliterated from Greek as Akhaia (, ''Akhaïa'' ), is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Greece and is situated in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The capital is Patras which is the third largest city in Greece. Geography Achaea is bordered by Elis to the west and southwest, Arcadia to the south, and Corinthia to the east and southeast. Benizelos Roufos
Benizelos Roufos (; 1795–1868) was a Greek politician and Prime Minister of Greece. Biography Early life Roufos was born in Patras in 1795, a scion of the wealthy Roufos-Kanakaris family. He was the son of Athanasios Kanakaris who fought during the Greek War of Independence. Career During the government of Ioannis Kapodistrias (1828–1830), Roufos became governor of Elis. Later he would also serve as Foreign Minister. In 1855, Roufos was elected Mayor of Patras, a post he held for three years. Athanasios Kanakaris-Roufos
Athanasios Kanakaris-Roufos (Greek: Αθανάσιος Κανακάρης-Ρούφος, 1830–1902) was a Greek politician from Achaea. He was mayor of the city of Patras from 1879 to 1883. He was the son of Benizelos Roufos and brother of Georgios Roufos. Together with his brother, he helped with the reformation of Patras. During his time as mayor he ran a gaslight company in Krya Itea, planted olives southwest of downtown, opened roads, constructed Omonoia Square, ran public schools, the Markato market and constructed the race track.
