Andy Simons Mountain
Andy Simons Mountain is a prominent double summit mountain located in the Kenai Mountains, and the fourth-highest peak on the Kenai Peninsula in the state of Alaska. The true summit is 1.3 mile west of the 5,300+ foot subsidiary east peak on this five-mile-long northwest-to-southeast trending mountain. The mountain is situated in Chugach National Forest, east of Mount Adair, and north of Seward, Alaska. The Seward Highway and Alaska Railroad traverse its western foot. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into Kenai Lake. History The first ascent of this mountain was made May 18, 1963, by a Mountaineerng Club of Alaska party led by Dave Johnston. This group left a summit register with the name "Big Bad Wolf Peak" as the intended name, in keeping with a theme of the already named Mother Goose Glacier at the south end of this mountain. Kenai Mountains
The Kenai Mountains ( Dena'ina: ''Yaghanen Dghili'') are a mountain range in the U.S. state of Alaska. They extend 192 km (120 mi) northeast from the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula to the Chugach Mountains, and have an average elevation of 3,000 to 5,000 feet. The Harding and Sargent Icefields, as well as the many glaciers that emanate from them, originate in the Kenai Mountains. Several prime fish-producing rivers, including the Kenai River and the Russian River, also flow from the mountains. The Dena'ina call the mountains ''Yaghanen Dghili'', meaning "good land mountains". The name "Kenai" was first published by Constantin Grewingk in 1849, who obtained his information from I. G. Wosnesenski's account of a voyage to the area in 1842. Prospecting is the first stage of the geological analysis (followed by exploration) of a territory. It is the search for minerals, fossils, precious metals, or mineral specimens. It is also known as fossicking. Traditionally prospecting relied on direct observation of mineralization in rock outcrops or in sediments. Snow River
The Snow River is a tributary of Kenai Lake in the U.S. state of Alaska. Beginning in the Kenai Mountains of the Kenai Peninsula, it flows southwest through Chugach National Forest where its main and south forks join to near Primrose at the southern inlet of the lake. The river mouth is about northeast of Seward. Along its final reaches, the river intersects the Iditarod Trail and passes under the Seward Highway.
