Andy Anderson (drummer)
Clifford Leon "Andy" Anderson (30 January 1951 – 26 February 2019) was a British drummer, best known for his work with The Cure and Steve Hillage. Life and work Anderson worked on ''Xitintoday,'' a studio album released by former Hawkwind member Nik Turner's project Sphynx in 1978, which was produced by Steve Hillage. He then joined Hillage's band and appeared on his two 1979 albums, ''Live Herald'' and ''Open''. After a few years as a session musician, he had a brief stint in Hawkwind in 1983, but did not record with them. His tenure in that band was cut short when he played with the Glove on their first and only album ''Blue Sunshine (album), Blue Sunshine''. This led to him joining the Cure later that year, when original drummer Lol Tolhurst moved to keyboards. West Ham
West Ham is an area in East London, located east of Charing Cross in the west of the modern London Borough of Newham. The area, which lies immediately to the north of the River Thames and east of the River Lea, was originally an ancient parish formed to serve parts of the older Manor of Ham, and it later became a County Borough. Midge Ure
James Ure (born 10 October 1953) is a Scottish musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. His stage name, Midge, is a phonetic reversal of Jim, the diminutive form of his actual name. Ure enjoyed particular success in the 1970s and 1980s in bands including Slik, Thin Lizzy, Rich Kids and Visage, and as the frontman of Ultravox. In 1984, he co-wrote and produced the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", which has sold 3.7 million copies in the UK. The song is the second highest-selling single in UK chart history. Ure co-organised Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8 with Bob Geldof. He acts as a trustee for the charity and also serves as an ambassador for Save the Children. ''The Top'' is the fifth studio album by English rock band The Cure, released on 4 May 1984 by Fiction Records. The album entered the UK Albums Chart at number ten on 12 May. Shortly after its release, the Cure embarked on a major tour of the United Kingdom, culminating in a three-night residency at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. Background and recording After recording psychedelic album '' Blue Sunshine'' for the one-off project the Glove during summer 1983, Robert Smith finished off the year composing and working on two other studio albums at the same time: ''The Top'' for the Cure and ''Hyæna'' for Siouxsie and the Banshees. Japanese Whispers
''Japanese Whispers'' is the second compilation album by British group The Cure. It was released in late 1983 by Fiction Records. It includes the singles "Let's Go to Bed", "The Walk" and "The Lovecats". The other tracks are the B-sides of these singles, although "Mr. Pink Eyes" (the second B-side for "The Lovecats") was not included. The songs were recorded when the band was in a transitional phase after bassist Simon Gallup left following a tour to promote the previous album, ''Pornography''. Beginning with these singles, Lol Tolhurst switched from drums to keyboards, a role he kept until his departure in 1989. Lol Tolhurst
Laurence Andrew "Lol" Tolhurst (born 3 February 1959) is a founding member and the former drummer and keyboardist of English band The Cure - he left the Cure in 1989 and was later involved in the band Presence and his current project, Levinhurst. In 2011, he was temporarily reunited with the Cure for a number of shows playing the band's earlier work. He published his memoir in 2016, ''Cured: The Tale of Two Imaginary Boys''. The book related his childhood in Crawley and his journey within the Cure. The Cure are an English Rock music, rock band formed in 1978 in Crawley, Crawley, West Sussex. Blue Sunshine (album)
''Blue Sunshine'' is the only studio album by the British supergroup the Glove, released in 1983 by Wonderland Records/Polydor. This album mainly served as a diversion for Robert Smith and Steven Severin when both of them were under heavy stress in their respective bands the Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Since Smith was prohibited from singing in another band by his record company, he and Severin recruited Zoo dancer Jeanette Landray (a former girlfriend of Banshees drummer Budgie) to sing on the majority of the tracks; Smith contractually could only sing on two songs, "Mr. Alphabet Says" and "Perfect Murder". Other musicians involved in this project were drummer Andy Anderson (who had just joined the Cure), multi-instrumentalist Martin McCarrick (who later joined the Banshees), and string players Ginny Hewes and Anne Stephenson (the latter had played for the Banshees on the album '' A Kiss in the Dreamhouse''). The Glove
The Glove was a 1983 English musical collaboration and recording project by the Cure's Robert Smith and Siouxsie and the Banshees' Steven Severin. They released one studio album, '' Blue Sunshine'', in 1983 as part of Severin's solo deal with Polydor. The latter came up with the band name, the album title and the blue/yellow sleeve concept, as Smith had to leave the project before completion due to prior commitments with the Cure. Nik Turner
Nicholas Robert Turner (26 August 1940 – 10 November 2022) was an English musician, best known as a member of space rock pioneers Hawkwind. Turner played saxophone and flute, as well as being a vocalist and composer. While with Hawkwind, Turner was known for his experimental free jazz stylisations and outrageous stage presence, often donning full makeup and Ancient Egypt-inspired costumes. 1940–1969: Early years Turner was born in Oxford in August 1940 to a theatrical family, although his father was working in a munitions factory. At the age of 13 his family moved to the Kent seaside resort of Margate where he worked at the local funfair during the summer holiday season, befriending another seasonal worker Robert Calvert. ''Xitintoday'' (pronounced as Exit into day) is a studio album released by Nik Turner's Sphynx in 1978. It was produced by Steve Hillage (listed as Stiv Hillage). In the Winter of 1976-7, after Turner had been dismissed from Hawkwind, he traveled to Egypt and made some portable recordings playing flute in the King's Chamber of Great Pyramid of Giza. He persuaded Tony Stratton-Smith of Charisma Records, who were Hawkwind's record company, to fund his working of these tapes into an album by regaling him with stories of his adventure. Steve Hillage had joined Gong for their one-off re-union event in Paris on 28 May, then in July travelled to Los Angeles with Miquette Giraudy to work on his funk-tinged ''Motivation Radio'' album with Malcolm Cecil at the Record Plant.
