1296 Andrée, provisional designation , is a stony Nysian asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 25 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 25 November 1933, by French astronomer Louis Boyer at the North African Algiers Observatory, Algeria, and named after the discoverer's niece. Orbit and classification ''Andrée'' is a member of the Nysa family, named after its namesake 44 Nysa and one of the smaller asteroid families in the main-belt. It orbits the Sun at a distance of 2.1–2.8 AU once every 3 years and 9 months (1,373 days). Its orbit has an eccentricity of 0.14 and an inclination of 4 ° with respect to the ecliptic. Andrée Land is a peninsula in King Christian X Land, East Greenland that is bounded by Kejser Franz Joseph Fjord, ''Isfjord'' and ''Geologfjord''. History The peninsula was named by A.G. Nathorst on his 1899 expedition after Swedish Arctic explorer Salomon August Andrée, who had made an attempt to reach the North Pole by balloon in 1897. One of the aims of Nathorst's 1899 venture was to search for traces of the lost Andrée's Arctic Balloon Expedition, whose fate was unknown until 1930, when it became known that Andrée had crash-landed on the pack ice and died on Kvitøya. Mount Andree () is an ice-free hill, 140 m, surmounting the small headland between Cave and West Bays on the west side of Heard Island. First charted and named by Edgar Aubert de la Rue, French geologist aboard the whale humper Kildalkey, who with his wife Andree undertook geological investigations along the north and west sides of the island in January 1929.
