Andrzej Niegolewski
Andrzej Marcin Niegolewski was born on the 12th of November, 1787 in Bytyń near Szamotuły and died on the 18th of February 1857 in Poznań, he was a Polish colonel that served in the Polish Light Cavalry Regiment during the Napoleonic Wars, a member of parliament and a shareholder of the Poznan Bazar. During the Spanish Peninsular War, he distinguished himself particularly at the battle of Somosierra. Biography Son of Felicjan Niegolewski herb (clan) Grzymała and of Magdalena Niegolewska (born Potocka herb Pilawa), he has a brother and a sister. In November 1806, he joined the squadron of Napoleon's Polish honor guards in Poznań. Sent to the 5th Polish cavalry regiment, he was promoted to second lieutenant and then lieutenant. Peninsular War
The Peninsular War (1807–1814) was the military conflict fought in the Iberian Peninsula by Spain, Portugal, and the United Kingdom against the invading and occupying forces of the First French Empire during the Napoleonic Wars. Jean-Baptiste Bessières (; 6 August 1768 – 1 May 1813), 1st Duke of Istria (''Duc d'Istrie''), was a French military commander and Marshal of the Empire who served during both the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars. His younger brother, Bertrand, followed in his footsteps and eventually became a divisional general. Their cousin, Julien Bessières, also served Emperor Napoleon I as a diplomat and imperial official. Early life and career Bessières was born on 6 August 1768 in Prayssac, in the province of Quercy, to a bourgeois family. Wielkopolska
Greater Poland, often known by its Polish name Wielkopolska (; german: Großpolen, sv, Storpolen, la, Polonia Maior), is a historical region of west-central Poland. Its chief and largest city is Poznań followed by Kalisz, the oldest city in Poland. The boundaries of Greater Poland have varied somewhat throughout history. Since the Middle Ages, Wielkopolska proper has been split into the Poznań and Kalisz voivodeships. In the wider sense, it also encompassed Sieradz, Łęczyca, Brześć Kujawski and Inowrocław voivodeships, which were situated further eastward. After the Partitions of Poland at the end of the 18th century, Greater Poland was incorporated into Prussia as the Grand Duchy of Posen.
