Andrew Lockyer
Andrew Alan Lockyer (born 7 July 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles in the VFL/AFL during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He also had a long career with East Fremantle in the West Australian Football League. Lockyer was a member of West Coast’s inaugural VFL season and made his debut in the same match as David Hart. He began his career as a forward, but shifted during his second season to defence and established himself as part of a champion backline in 1991. He played in West Coast's 1991 Grand Final side which lost to Hawthorn, but after that was quickly discarded by Eagle selectors when the team underachieved early in 1992. Before and after his career with the Eagles, Lockyer played in the WAFL as a forward for East Fremantle, winnings premierships in 1985, 1992 and 1994, besides kicking fourteen goals in one match against Perth during the 1995 season. East Fremantle Football Club
The East Fremantle Football Club, nicknamed the Sharks, is an Australian rules football club playing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). The team's home ground is East Fremantle Oval. East Fremantle are the most successful club in WAFL history, winning 29 premierships since their entry into the competition in 1898. History The East Fremantle Football Club was formed in 1898 and up to the end of the 2022 season the club has won 29 league premierships in the West Australian Football League. Making the club one of the most successful AFL football clubs in Australia. 2000 Westar Rules Season
The 2000 Westar Rules season was the fourth season of ‘Westar Rules’ and the 116th season of the various incarnations of senior football in Perth. It was the last season before the competition's name was changed back to the traditional ‘ WAFL’ as it was clear the public had not been attracted by the change. Owing to the Sydney Olympics, Westar Rules shortened the 2000 season from twenty to eighteen matches per club, and retained this eighteen-match season in 2001 and 2002 before going back to the current twenty-match season. The 2000 season saw East Perth freed from the coaching and ground disputes that had wiped out their 1999 season, aided by a host club arrangement with West Coast and with Leederville Oval as home ground and Tony Micale as coach. The team rose from second last, with only five wins, to top of the table losing only three games. 2004 WAFL Season
The 2004 WAFL season was the 120th season of the various incarnations of the West Australian Football League. Subiaco, after eleven unsuccessful finals campaigns including six in succession, won its first premiership since Haydn Bunton, Jr. took them to the 1988 flag, whilst Swan Districts, largely clear of their severe financial troubles from the 1990s, played finals for the first time in a decade. During late May and June, perennial tailender Perth looked like playing finals for only the fourth time since 1979, but faltered badly in July and August. The wooden spoon went to East Fremantle for the first time since their debut season of 1898, with three wins being the Sharks’ worst record since that debut year when they won one match of sixteen (though they also lost seventeen matches in 1968 and 1970). Rod Lester-Smith
Rod Lester-Smith (born 18 July 1959) is a former Australian Rules Footballer who played with East Fremantle in the West Australian Football League, as well as Hawthorn and the Brisbane Bears in the VFL/AFL. He was also a member of the 1985 All-Australian team. Tall, pacy and strong overhead, Lester-Smith endured more than his fair share of injury woes during six seasons at East Fremantle. He managed 89 games in his first stint with the Sharks, played mostly on the wing. He was also a member of the famous 1979 WAFL premiership team. Drafted to Hawthorn in 1982, Lester-Smith spent most of his time at half back and was unlucky not to play in a winning grand final team during Hawthorn's dominance in the 1980s. Lester-Smith played in grand final losses in 1984 and 1985; when Hawthorn won the flag in 1986, he was a last minute omission from the grand final team.
