Andrew Butchart
Andrew Butchart (born 14 October 1991) is a British runner who competed in the 5000 metres event at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. He is the current Scottish record holder in the 3000, 5000 and 10,000 metre events. In June 2023, he broke the parkrun “world-record”. Career Butchart has trained at the Central Athletic Club in Stirling. At the age of 16, Butchart came third in the Scottish schools cross-country championships. He won the 2014 Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash. Butchart won his first professional race in the 5000 metres event at the 2015 Scottish Seniors Championships; he also finished second in the 1,500 metres race. In June 2015, Butchart was selected for the European 10,000m Cup despite having never previously run a 10,000m race on a track, and also finished third in the 3000 metres event at the European Team Championships in Moscow. Long-distance Running
Long-distance running, or endurance running, is a form of continuous running over distances of at least . Physiologically, it is largely aerobic in nature and requires stamina as well as mental strength. Within endurance running comes two different types of respiration. The more prominent side that runners experience more frequently is aerobic respiration. This occurs when oxygen is present, and the body is able to utilize oxygen to help generate energy and muscle activity. On the other side, anaerobic respiration occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen, and this is common towards the final stretch of races when there is a drive to speed up to a greater intensity. Dunblane
Dunblane (, gd, Dùn Bhlàthain) is a small town in the council area of Stirling in central Scotland, and inside the historic boundaries of the county of Perthshire. It is a commuter town, with many residents making use of good transport links to much of the Central Belt, including Glasgow and Edinburgh. The men's 5000 metres event at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place between 16 and 20 August at the Olympic Stadium. Summary Mo Farah entered as the favourite for the race, having won the 2012 Olympic title as well as the last two World Championships 5000 m. He also held the fastest time of the year at 12:59:29 minutes and won the Olympic 10,000 m earlier in Rio. 2016 British Athletics Championships
The 2016 British Athletics Championships was the national championship in outdoor track and field for the United Kingdom held at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, from 24–26 June 2016. The event was organised by UK Athletics. A full range of outdoor events were held. The championships served as the main qualification event for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at the 2016 Summer Olympics for all events except combined events, marathons, race walks and the 10,000 metres. John Robson (born 31 January 1957) in Kelso, Scotland is a retired British male athlete who competed in the 1500m. He has a personal best time of 3 minutes and 33.83 seconds. Athletics career Robson competed for Scotland at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton Canada winning a bronze medal. He also competed at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia and the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. IAAF Diamond League
The Diamond League is an annual series of elite track and field athletic competitions comprising fourteen of the best invitational athletics meetings. The series sits in the top tier of the World Athletics (formerly known as the IAAF) one-day meeting competitions. The inaugural season was in 2010. The FBK Games is an annual track and field event at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Stadion in Hengelo, Netherlands as part of the IAAF World Challenge Meetings. It was first organized in 1981.
