2016 British Athletics Championships
The 2016 British Athletics Championships was the national championship in outdoor track and field for the United Kingdom held at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, from 24–26 June 2016. The event was organised by UK Athletics. A full range of outdoor events were held. The championships served as the main qualification event for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at the 2016 Summer Olympics for all events except combined events, marathons, race walks and the 10,000 metres. In addition, shorter track walking events were held during the British Championships that did not involve qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Medal summary Men Key: . Martyn Rooney
Martyn Joseph Rooney (born 3 April 1987) is an English sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres event. He reached the 400 m final at the 2008 Summer Olympics and won bronze in the 4×400 metres relay. A mainstay on the anchor leg of the Great Britain and England 4 x 400 metre relay teams, at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics he won a silver medal with the Great Britain relay team, and bronze in the 2015 and 2017 World Championships. Sebastian Rodger
Sebastian William Gregory "Seb" Rodger (born 29 June 1991) is a British athlete specialising in the 400 metres hurdles. In 2013, he won a silver medal at the European U23 Championships and reached the semifinals of the World Championships. He also represented Great Britain at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Career Rodger, who was born in Brighton, began concentrating on the 400 metres hurdles in 2011, having previously been a decathlete with a personal best score of 7200 points in 2010. His personal best in the 400 metres hurdles is 49.19 seconds set in Tampere in 2013, when winning a silver medal at the European U23 Championships. David King (hurdler)
David King (born 13 June 1994) is an English Olympic athlete specialising in the high hurdles. He is a three times British champion over 110m hurdles and three times British champion over 60m hurdles. He represented Team GB at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021) and made the semi-finals, finishing 19th overall. At the 2023 British Indoor Athletics Championships he took the title of 2023 UK national champion over 60m indoor hurdles. He then reached the finals of the 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Istanbul where he finished 7th. He is currently based in Phoenix, Arizona, and trains with Phoenix Track Club under Coach Tim O'Neil. Lawrence Clarke (hurdler)
Sir Charles Lawrence Somerset Clarke, 7th Baronet, OLY (born 12 March 1990) is a former professional 110 m hurdler who finished fourth in the London Olympic Games 110 m hurdles final. He is the son of Sir Toby Clarke, 6th Baronet and succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death in 2019. He served as Captain of the Great Britain Athletics Team at the 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships and was coached in Bath by Malcolm Arnold. Andrew Pozzi
Andrew William Pozzi (born 15 May 1992) is a British hurdling athlete. He was the 2018 indoor World Champion at 60 metres hurdles. He was the 2012 UK 60m and 110m Champion and holds the record for the fastest ever time run by a UK junior hurdler. The record time, 13.29 seconds, was set on 3 July 2011 in Mannheim, Germany at the Bauhaus Junior Gala. Pozzi is coached by Malcolm Arnold, the former coach of Olympic silver medalist and two-time World Championship gold medalist Colin Jackson and 400m Olympic gold medalist John Akii-Bua. Andy Vernon
Andrew James Vernon (born 7 January 1986) is a British long-distance runner who specialised in the 5000 metres, the 10,000metres on track and cross country running. After the 2018 commonwealth games and started to concentrate on the roads winning Manchester Half Marathon with the aim of doing a full marathon in 2019. Andrew Butchart
Andrew Butchart (born 14 October 1991) is a British runner who competed in the 5000 metres event at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. He is the current Scottish record holder in the 3000, 5000 and 10,000 metre events. In June 2023, he broke the parkrun “world-record”. Chris O'Hare (born 23 November 1990) is a Scottish middle-distance runner who competes in the 1500 metres. He has represented Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Great Britain at the 2016 Olympic Games. Personal life O'Hare was born and brought up in West Linton and attended Peebles High School. Charlie Grice
Charles Da'Vall Grice (born 7 November 1993), informally known as Charlie Grice, is a British middle distance athlete. Athletics career Grice started out as both a footballer, playing at county level, and an athlete, but balancing them both led to injuries and he decided to solely focus on athletics. He had a breakthrough in 2010, when he broke the English Schools' Athletics Association Championships record in the final of the 1500 metres as well as taking the title. He went on from this to win bronze at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in the 1000 metres, after coming second at the European Trials event in Russia.
