Ernst Burmeister
Joachim Ernst Burmeister ( –1806) was a German-Danish architect and master carpenter. He made a significant contribution to the rebuilding of Copenhagen in the years after the Copenhagen Fire of 1795. He was the father of master builder Andreas Burmeister: Early life and education Burmeister was born in Hamburg but the year of his birth is not known. He moved to Copenhagen in an early age where worked as a carpenter for Andreas Kirkerup and attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, winning its large gold medal in 1774. Career Burmeister was licensed as a master carpenter in 1790. He employed a total of 77 carpenters in 1794. He was very active in the rebuilding of the city during the years after the Copenhagen Fire of 1795. His buildings were designed with inspiration from Caspar Frederik Harsdorff's Neoclassicism. Prior House
The Prior House (Danish: Den Priorske Gård), situated at Bredgade 33, opposite Sankt Annæ Plads, is the current headquarters of the Bruun Rasmussen auction house in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Neoclassical building was conjstructed in 1794 for a ship captain by master mason Andreas Hallander. It contained a single high-end apartment on each of the three upper floors. The building takes its name after businessman and ship-owner Hans Peter Prior, its owner from 1850 until his death 25 years later, whose shipping company DFDS was initially based in the building. One of Prior's sons was the sculptor Lauritz Prior. In 1864, Prior charged the architect Wilhelm Petersen with the design of a three-storey atalier building for the son. Assistens Cemetery
Assistens Cemetery ( da, Assistens Kirkegård) is the name of a number of cemeteries in Denmark. The common nominator is, as the first part of the name implies (Latin: ''assistens'' meaning assisting), an assisting cemetery for a town's churches. Already by the end of the 17th century, Danish authorities deemed that the conditions for inner-city cemeteries were becoming increasingly unacceptable. Not only was the space becoming limited but it was also deemed unhygienic to conduct burial in the inner-city. The solution was to erect shared cemeteries in the outskirt of a town, named Assisting Cemetery, primarily in larger towns. The first of these in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, was founded by royal resolution on May 26, 1757, and inaugurated November 6, 1760.
