The Andhra Pradesh Police is the law enforcement agency of the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Public order and police being a state subject in India, the police force is headed by the Director general of police, Kasireddy Rajendranadh Reddy History The Madras Act XXIV of 1859 which marked the beginning of the Madras Police and shortly later, the Police Act of 1861 instituted the system of police which forms the foundation of modern-day police in India. The "Ceded Areas" of Andhra, as they were popularly known, continued as a part of the Madras Police and it was only in October 1953, after the birth of a separate Andhra State, that the Andhra State Police gained individual existence. Finally with the formation of the Andhra Pradesh on 1 November 1956 integrating the Telugu areas of the erstwhile Hyderabad state with the Andhra State, the modern day Andhra Pradesh Police came into existence. Damodar Goutam Sawang
Damodar Gautam Sawang is the chairman of Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission and a former Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh. Sawang served as the Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh from 31 May 2019 to 15 February 2022. Sawang is a Regular Recruit of the Indian Police Service belonging to the 1986 batch and allocated to the Andhra Pradesh Police cadre. Nanduri Samba Siva Rao (born 1957) served as an Indian Police Service officer (RR: 1984 Batch) from 19 December 1984 – 31 December 2017. He secured AIR ( All India Rank) of 136 in UPSC with Physics and Mechanical Engineering as major subjects. He served as the Director general of police (HoPF - Head of Police Force) of Andhra Pradesh. Atma Jayaram (31 August 1915 - 19 March 1990) was the Director of Intelligence Bureau (India), Director of the Indian Intelligence Bureau (India), Intelligence Bureau between November 1971 to August 1975. The state of Andhra Pradesh has 26 districts spread across three regions — Uttarandhra, Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. Uttarandhra consists of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts. Coastal Andhra comprises Kakinada, Dr. B. R. Sub-inspector (SI), or sub-inspector of police, is a rank used extensively in South Asia: in the police forces of Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka, which is primarily based on the British model.
