The Anderson Street Conservation Park is a protected conservation park in Manunda, Cairns, Queensland, Australia. It is managed by the Cairns Regional Council. History The Anderson Street park was gazetted as an environmental park in 1976. In 1994 it became a conservation park under the Nature Conservation Act 1992. Manunda is a suburb of Cairns in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Manunda had a population of 5,390 people. Geography Manunda is a flat suburb (0–10 metres above sea level). The southern part of Manunda is residential while the northern part contains a number of community amenities including sportsgrounds and the Cairns Cemetery (also known as Martyn Street Cemetery). Cairns (, ) is a city in Queensland, Australia, on the tropical north east coast of Far North Queensland. The Cairns Region is a local government area in Far North Queensland, Queensland, Australia, centred on the regional city of Cairns. The ''Nature Conservation Act 1992'' is an act of the Parliament of Queensland, Australia, that, together with subordinate legislation, provides for the legislative protection of Queensland's threatened biota. As originally published, it provided for biota to be declared ''presumed extinct'', ''endangered'', ''vulnerable'', ''rare'' or ''common''. In 2004 the act was amended to more closely align with the IUCN Red List categories: ''presumed extinct'' was changed to ''extinct in the wild'' and ''common'' was changed to ''least concern''. ''Near threatened'' was introduced as an eventual replacement for ''rare'', but the latter was to be phased out over time rather than immediately abandoned. ''Melaleuca leucadendra'', commonly known as weeping paperbark, long-leaved paperbark or white paperbark is a plant in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae and is widespread in northern Australia, Southeast Asia, New Guinea and the Torres Strait Islands. It is a tree, sometimes growing to more than with a trunk covered with thick, white, papery bark and weeping thinner branches. It has a long flowering season, can flower at almost any time of the year and is often grown as a tree in parks and on roadsides. Pteropus Conspicillatus
The spectacled flying fox (''Pteropus conspicillatus''), also known as the spectacled fruit bat, is a megabat that lives in Australia's north-eastern regions of Queensland. It is also found in New Guinea and on the offshore islands including Woodlark Island, Alcester Island, Kiriwina, and Halmahera. The spectacled flying fox was listed as a threatened species under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. They were considered vulnerable due to a significant decline in numbers as a result of loss of their prime feeding habitat and secluded camp sites. It has also been reported that spectacled flying foxes skim over the surface of water to drink and are sometimes eaten by crocodiles. The species was classified as endangered by the IUCN in 2020.
