Anders Nummedal
Anders Johnsen Nummedal (January 27, 1867 – March 6, 1944) was a Norwegian archaeologist. He is known for discovering the Fosna culture. Nummedal was educated as a geologist, and in 1909 he was employed as a teacher at Kristiansund High School ( no, Kristiansund høyere almenskole) when he found traces of people living on the Norwegian coast approximately 8,000 years ago. Nummedal found these settlements from the Fosna culture while he was studying the shorelines and post-glacial rebound during the time after the last ice age. The first discovery was made at Lake Voll (''Vollvatnet'') on the island of Nordlandet in Kristiansund. Later he found a number of Fosna culture sites elsewhere in Western Norway and Southern Norway. Nummedal was named a government scholar in 1917, and he was associated with the University Collection of Antiquities in Oslo as a conservator. Komsa Culture
The Komsa culture (''Komsakulturen'') was a Mesolithic culture of hunter-gatherers that existed from around 10,000 BC in Northern Norway. The culture is named after Mount Komsa in the community of Alta, Finnmark, where the remains of the culture were first discovered. The term was first used by the Norwegian archaeologist Anders Nummedal (1867–1944) after the discoveries he made on Mount Komsa in 1925. The distinction between a "Komsa" type of stone-tool culture north of the Arctic Circle and a " Fosna" type from Trøndelag to Oslofjord was rendered obsolete in the 1970s. The Royal Norwegian Order of Saint Olav ( no, Den Kongelige Norske Sankt Olavs Orden; or ''Sanct Olafs Orden'', the old Norwegian name) is a Norwegian order of chivalry instituted by King Oscar I on 21 August 1847. It is named after King Olav II, known to posterity as St. Olav. Just before the union with Sweden was dissolved in 1905, the Order of the Norwegian Lion was instituted in 1904 by King Oscar II, but no appointments were awarded by his successor, King Haakon VII. Komsafjället
Komsafjellet ( sme, Gurravárri) is a mountain in Alta Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The area has given its name to the so-called Komsa culture when in 1925, archaeological finds from the Stone Age were made in the mountains. The oldest finds have been dated to 8000–7000 BC. The mountain is close to the town of Alta, and the mountain's name Komsa is actively used in naming in Alta. History The name Komsafjellet comes as a simplification of the former name Kongshavnfjell. Old maps showing today's Komsafjell showed the mountain under the name Kongshavnfjell, and the Sami name for the mountain is Gurravárri.
