Ana Firmino
Ana Firmino (born 1953) is a Cape Verdean singer. She was born in 1953 on the island of Sal, but it was not until she was in her late 20s that she dedicated herself to a career in music. She has performed for many years in Cape Verde and Europe particularly in Portugal, appearing in film and on television releasing several solo albums including ''Amor e Tao Sabe'' (1998). She is a well-regarded interpreter of the native '' morna'' as well as other traditional genres. One of her signature songs is '' Chico Malandro'', produced by one of Cape Verde's most successful musicians Tito Paris. Her two film credits are ''Fintar o Destino'' (1998) (released as '' Dribbling Fate'' in the USA) and '' Testamento do Senhor Napumoceno'' (English: ''Napumoceno's Will'') (1997). Sal (Portuguese for "salt") is an island in Cape Verde. Sal is a tourist destination with white sandy beaches and over 350 days of sunshine a year. Morna (music)
The morna (pronunciation in both Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole: ) is a music and dance genre from Cape Verde. Lyrics are usually in Cape Verdean Creole, and instrumentation often includes cavaquinho, clarinet, accordion, violin, piano and guitar. Morna is widely considered the national music of Cape Verde, as is the fado for Portugal, the tango for Argentina, the merengue for Dominican Republic, the rumba for Cuba, and so on. The best internationally known morna singer was Cesária Évora. Portimão () is a city and a municipality in the district of Faro, in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. The population in 2011 was 55,614, in an area of 182.06 km2. Ângelo César do Rosário Firmino, better known by the stage name Boss AC (born January 20, 1975) is a Portugal, Portuguese rapper originally from Cape Verde. Antoninho Travadinha
António Vicente Lopes (d. 1987), better known as Antoninho Travadinha was one of the major autodidactic musicians of Cape Verde originated from Janela in Paúl the island of Santo Antão. He performed the popular dances when he was only nine years old, and made himself internationally famous when he became forty, by the time he undertook a tournée in Portugal.
