Amy Garcia
Amy Garcia (born 24 May 1981) is an English journalist and broadcaster. She is currently the main anchor of the BBC Yorkshire regional magazine programme ''Look North''. Early life Garcia was born in Wakefield; her mother is English and her father is Spanish. She attended Kettlethorpe High School and Wakefield College. She also studied at the National Youth Music Theatre. Career Garcia moved to London aged 19, working on interactive TV services Chase-It.TV and ITV Play's ''Play DJ''. She also worked on programmes for CBBC, CITV, and The Disney Channel. Garcia joined ''BBC Look North'' as a broadcast journalist in 2009, then moving to ''BBC South Today'' in 2012. During this time, she was also a newsreader for ''60 Seconds'' on BBC Three, before moving back to Yorkshire and re-joining ''BBC Look North'', but as a presenter, replacing the then newly-dismissed Christa Ackroyd. Harry John Gration (22 October 1950 – 24 June 2022) was an English journalist and broadcaster. He was one of the main anchors for the BBC Yorkshire regional magazine programme '' Look North''. He was often referred to as ''Mr. Yorkshire'' by the media. Early life Born in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, to Nina (nee Smith) and Morris Gration, Gration was raised in a back-to-back house in the city. His father was a chemist who was a manager at a Boots store in the city and promotion took the family first to Leeds, then York. Gration was educated at Leeds Grammar School and at St Peter's School in York, and after leaving education, he initially spent five years as a history teacher and eventually, a head of history at The Rodillian Academy, a school in Lofthouse, near Leeds. Career Whilst still teaching, Gration became a sports commentator on rugby league games which led to a three-month contract with the BBC. Christa Marion Ackroyd is an English journalist and broadcaster, best known as a former presenter for the regional TV news programmes ''Calendar'' (for ITV Yorkshire) and ''BBC Look North''. Early life Ackroyd, whose father was a policeman, attended Hanson Girls' Grammar School (now Hanson Academy) from 1968 (which had moved to its new site in Five Lane Ends in 1967), which became the co-educational comprehensive Hanson School in 1972. ''60 Seconds'' is a short-news programme which ran between shows on BBC Three (and before that BBC Choice). It was broadcast under the BBC News format and branding. The presenters included Tasmin Lucia-Khan, Andy May, Matt Cooke, James Dagwell, Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije and Sam Naz. The programme was similar to the now defunct ''BBC News Summary'' that aired on BBC One, also broadcast under the BBC News format. Format The programme lasted for 60 seconds as the name suggests, during which time the presenter condensed some of the day's news, sport and entertainment stories into a 60-second bulletin. This made it similar to ''FYI Daily'', a programme of the same length which airs on ITV2, ITV3, ITV4 and ITVBe. Disney Channel was a British and Irish television kids channel owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company (UK) Ltd. It was aired from 1 October 1995, to 30 September 2020. A one-hour timeshift service called Disney Channel +1 was available on Sky and Virgin Media. At the time of closure, the channel had two sister channels; Disney Junior and Disney XD. History Pre-launch Disney Channel was originally planned to launch in 1989 on Sky Television. It was featured in much of the promotional material surrounding the launch of Sky Television and the Astra satellite.
