Amsterdam Coalition
The Amsterdam Coalition ( hr, Amsterdamska koalicija) was an electoral alliance of centre-left and liberal political parties in Croatia. History The alliance consisted of six parties - the Civic Liberal Alliance (GLAS), Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS-DDI), Croatian Peasant Party (HSS), Alliance of Primorje-Gorski Kotar (PGS), Democrats and Croatian Labourists. It was formally formed on the 8 December 2018 when Anka Mrak-Taritaš (GLAS), Krešo Beljak (HSS) and Boris Miletić (IDS-DDI) signed a coalition agreement for the 2019 European Parliament election in Croatia. On 23 February 2019, the Coalition presented their list of 12 candidates for the 2019 European Parliament election, headed by Valter Flego of the IDS. The coalition stated in their programme that they "fight for a progressive, free and prosperous Croatia", while also "opposing intolerance, incompetence and primitivism". Restart Coalition
The Restart Coalition ( hr, Restart koalicija) is a centre-left political alliance in Croatia. The coalition was formed in 2010 as the Kukuriku Coalition (''Kukuriku koalicija''). This somewhat facetious name meaning 'cock-a-doodle-doo', taken from a restaurant of the same name in Kastav where the coalition leaders first convened in July 2009, became well known and was eventually taken as the coalition's official name. The coalition originally consisted of four centrist and centre-left parties in the Croatian Parliament: the Social Democratic Party of Croatia (SDP), Croatian People's Party – Liberal Democrats (HNS-LD), Croatian Party of Pensioners (HSU) and Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS). Croatian Labourists – Labour Party
The Croatian Labourists – Labour Party ( hr, Hrvatski laburisti - Stranka rada) is a social-democratic and democratic socialist political party in Croatia. It was formed in 2010 by a former trade unionist and People's Party MP Dragutin Lesar, who was the party's only member of parliament in the 6th assembly. In the 2011 parliamentary election, the party won six seats in the Croatian Parliament. The Social Democratic Party of Croatia ( hr, Socijaldemokratska partija Hrvatske, SDP) is a social-democratic political party in Croatia. The SDP is anti-fascist, progressive, and strongly pro-European. The SDP was formed in 1990 as the successor of the League of Communists of Croatia, Croatian branch of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia, which had governed Croatia within the Yugoslav federation since World War II. Croatian Party Of Pensioners
The Croatian Party of Pensioners ( hr, Hrvatska stranka umirovljenika or HSU) is a Croatian centre-left political party that is currently led by Veselko Gabričević. When the party was founded, few people took it seriously and many commentators speculated that the ultimate purpose of HSU was to take away pensioners' votes from rejuvenated SDP and thus help ruling HDZ remain in power. However, the party gradually built its organisation throughout the country and slowly rose in popularity due to both HDZ and left-centre cabinets of Ivica Račan refusing to honour a Constitutional Court verdict that ordered the government to pay back pensions that had been denied in the early 1990s. Uljanik
Uljanik was a shipbuilding company in Pula, Croatia. History Uljanik was founded in 1856, in the carefully selected bay of Pula (then known as Pola) as a shipyard of the Austro-Venetian Navy (from 1867 to 1918 Austro-Hungarian Navy). The foundation stone was laid on December 9 by Empress Elisabeth of Austria so, this date is celebrated as the anniversary of the shipyard, one of the oldest operational shipyards in the world. Almost two years after laying the foundation stone – on October 5, 1858, the first ship – – having a deadweight of 5,194 tonnes, was launched from the berth. The construction of 55 ships of various type for the Austro-Hungarian fleet having a total deadweight of 53,588 tonnes followed. Valter Flego
Valter Flego (born 15 August 1972) is a Croatian politician who has been a Member of the European Parliament for Croatia since 2 July 2019. Previously he had served as the 4th prefect of Istria County from 2013 to 2019, as well as he served three terms as mayor of the town of Buzet. He is a member of the liberal Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) party. Early life and education He finished elementary school and first two years of high school in Buzet, and 3rd and 4th grade in Rijeka. After graduation he gained qualification of a machine technician. 2019 European Parliament Election In Croatia
European Parliament elections were held in Croatia on 26 May 2019, electing members of the national Croatia constituency to the European Parliament. These were the third such elections in the country since its accession to the European Union in 2013. It was the first election to be held nationally since the 2016 parliamentary election, following which the center-right HDZ had formed a coalition government, first with the center-right MOST and later - in June 2017, with the centrist HNS.
