Ammon Ra (foaled 1928) was a Bay New Zealand thoroughbred gelding. He raced in Australia. Ammon Ra competed from age two to five, recording 17 wins in races from 5 furlongs to 1½ miles. Champion jockey Maurice McCarten won 10 races and the Sydney Jockeys premiership in 1938–39. Later he became the leading Sydney trainer from 1948 to 1949 and 1951 to 1952. Breeding Ammon Ra was bred by Dr Edwin Milsom and passed in at auction for 450 guineas. He was raced initially in his colours, then sold for 3,500 guineas. Limond (GB) was the leading sire in New Zealand from 1930 to 1931 and the winner of 9 Derbys in Australia and New Zealand, as well as 25 Southern Hemisphere classics. Nightmarch, foaled in 1925 was an outstanding New Zealand bred Thoroughbred racehorse known as ''The Kiwi''. He won the New Zealand Derby and Dunedin Cup as a three-year-old before going to Australia where he became the first horse to win both the Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate in the same year, as well as other Principal races. He was by Night Raid, the sire of Phar Lap, out of the good racemare and broodmare, Marsa (1911) by Martian, a mare that traced to Manto. Marsa produced five foals, all of which raced and were winners. Racing record As a two-year-old he had eight starts and won two, the Dunedin J.C. Juvenile (by two lengths) and Hopeful Handicaps, having dead heated with Full Feather in the latter race. Chatham (foaled 1928) was an outstanding Australian Thoroughbred racehorse that was bred by Percy Miller at the Kia Ora Stud near Scone in the Hunter Region, New South Wales. Myosotis was the dam of eight foals all of which raced and included four winners.
