Amherstburg is a town near the mouth of the Detroit River in Essex County, Ontario, Canada. In 1796, Fort Malden was established here, stimulating growth in the settlement. The fort has been designated as a National Historic Site. The town is approximately south of the U.S. city of Detroit, Michigan, facing Wyandotte, Grosse Ile Township, Brownstown Charter Township, Trenton, and Gibraltar, Michigan. Gibraltar is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,656 at the 2010 census. Gibraltar is a southern city of Metro Detroit and is about south of the city of Detroit. The city is bordered by the Detroit River to the east, the city of Trenton to the north, and the township of Brownstown to the south and west. History Gibraltar was first settled as early as 1811 and later platted on March 14, 1837, by trustees of the Gibralter & Flat Rock Company. The community received its first post office under the name "Gibralter" on October 2, 1837. The post office was renamed to Woodbury on December 8, 1838, but renamed back to Gibralter on May 13, 1839. Trenton, Michigan
Trenton is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. At the 2010 census, the city population was 18,853. A Shawnee village was built in the area by war chief Blue Jacket after the 1795 Treaty of Greenville. The area later became the site of the Battle of Monguagon between Americans and a British-Indian coalition during the War of 1812. The battle is commemorated with a Michigan State Historical Site marker in present-day Elizabeth Park, which was the first county park in Michigan when it was established in 1919. Brownstown Charter Township is a charter township in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 30,627 at the 2010 census. Brownstown was established in 1827, a decade prior to Michigan's Admission to the Union. Brownstown has three separate but connected segments; due to the incorporation of the cities of Flat Rock, Rockwood, and Woodhaven in the early 1960s.
