Amey plc, previously known as Amey Ltd and Amey Roadstone Construction, is a United Kingdom-based infrastructure support service provider. Amey was founded by William Charles Amey in 1921. The firm grew rapidly during the Second World War via government infrastructure contracts. In 1959, it was contracted to supply gravel for the construction of the M1 motorway. During 1963, Amey was listed on the first time on the London Stock Exchange. Between 1972 and 1989, the company was owned by Consolidated Gold Fields. In 1995, Amey was refloated on the London Stock Exchange. Around this time, management decided to orientate the company towards support services delivery activities. In April 2003, Amey was acquired by the Spanish infrastructure services company Ferrovial. During the early 21st century, Amey diversified into various market sectors, including criminal justice and railways. Jessica L. Amey (born November 15, 1976) is a former competitive butterfly swimmer from Canada, who competed for her native country at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. There she finished in 25th position in the 100-metre butterfly, after having won the silver medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay one year earlier at the 1995 FINA Short Course World Championships, alongside Julie Howard, Lisa Flood and Shannon Shakespeare. Otis Amey
Fred Otis Holmes Amey (born December 4, 1981) is a former professional American and Canadian football wide receiver. He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at Sacramento State University. Amey also played for the Austin Wranglers, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Gladiators, BC Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, San Jose SaberCats and Sacramento Mountain Lions. William Amey
William Amey VC MM (5 March 1881 – 28 May 1940) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Amey was 37 years old, and a lance-corporal in the 1/8th Battalion, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment, British Army during the First World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 4 November 1918 at Landrecies, France, when many hostile machine-gun nests were missed by the leading troops owing to fog, Lance-Corporal Amey led his section against a machine-gun nest under heavy fire and drove the garrison into a neighbouring farm, finally capturing 50 prisoners and several machine-guns. Later, single-handed and under heavy fire he attacked a machine-gun post in a farmhouse, killed two of the garrison and drove the remainder into a cellar until assistance arrived.
