American University Of The Caribbean School Of Medicine
The American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) is a private for-profit medical school. Its main basic science campus is located in Sint Maarten, and administrative offices are located in Miramar, Florida, in the United States. AUC is owned by Adtalem Global Education. History Montserrat Founded by American educator Dr. Paul Tien in 1978. The main campus of the American University of the Caribbean was originally located on the island of Montserrat. However, the university had to be evacuated in 1995 due to volcanic activity in the Soufrière Hills. The campus remained closed for two years, until it was finally destroyed by pyroclastic flow from the volcano in 1997. St. Maarten AUC purchased a parcel of land in the village of Cupecoy on the Dutch side of St. Martin and construction of a permanent campus began in July 1996. The new campus opened on 1 May 1998. Hurricane Irma was an extremely powerful Cape Verde hurricane that caused widespread destruction across its path in September 2017. Irma was the first Category 5 hurricane to strike the Leeward Islands on record, followed by Maria two weeks later. The Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM) is an international medical review and accreditation agency service for medical schools. The National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA), part of the United States Department of Education, has listed ACCM as "found to use standards to accredit their medical schools that are comparable to the standards used to accredit medical schools in the United States." BronxCare Hospital System
The BronxCare Health System, previously known as "Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center," is a hospital in the Bronx, New York City. It was founded as the Lebanon Hospital by Jonas Weil in 1890. In 1962, Lebanon Hospital merged with Bronx Hospital, and since 2016 the combined center has served as a teaching hospital for Mount Sinai School of Medicine. History Lebanon Hospital The current hospital center owes its origins to the immigration of European Jews in the late 19th century that caused an even greater strain on the area's hospitals.
