American Professional Football League
The American Professional Football League (APFL) was an indoor football league that was founded in 2003. After the 2012 season, most of the teams left to start the Champions Professional Indoor Football League. The league consisted of professional and semi-professional teams, with a few core teams that played a full 10 game schedule and other teams that played partial schedules. At the end of each season, the playoffs were contested between the league's core teams. The first few years of league play were dominated by the Kansas Koyotes, but in later years the league had more parity and more stable members, resulting in the first championship won by another team, the Iowa Blackhawks (in 2009), and the first championship game not involving the Koyotes, when the Iowa Blackhawks defended their championship against the Mid-Missouri Outlaws in the 2010 APFL season. Indoor American Football
Indoor American football, or arena football, is a variation of gridiron football played at ice hockey-sized indoor arenas. While varying in details from league to league, the rules of indoor football are designed to allow for play in a smaller arena. It is distinct from traditional American or Canadian football played in larger domed or open-air stadiums, although several early college football games contested on full-sized or nearly full-sized fields at Chicago Coliseum (1890s) and Atlantic City Convention Center (1930s and 1960s) helped to show that football could be played as an indoor game. Cheyenne Warriors
The Cheyenne Warriors were a professional indoor football team which was most recently a member of the Developmental Indoor Football League. Based in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the Warriors played their home games at the Cheyenne Ice and Events Center. The team had been a member of the Indoor Football League with intent to play in the 2013 IFL season until the principal owner's death forced them to withdraw from the IFL. History For their inaugural season, the Warriors played in the American Professional Football League, finishing at the bottom of the league standings at 0-8. The National Indoor Football League (NIFL) was a professional indoor football league in the United States. For their first six years, the league had teams in markets not covered by either the Arena Football League or its developmental league, AF2, however, that changed briefly with their expansion into AFL markets such as Atlanta, Denver, and Los Angeles, and AF2 markets such as Fort Myers and Houston. Fort Worth Regulators
The Texas Regulators were an indoor football team that played in the American Professional Football League in 2007 and 2008. In 2007, they joined the APFL and were to play as the "Fort Worth Regulators". However, arena problems forced them to cancel all home games. The only away games they played were league games against Conroe Storm and an exhibition game against Beaumont Drillers. In the 2008 season, they appeared to have started again, but failed to play out the season. The APFL as a league had started to fall apart, and the NIFL had shut down operations as a league. History The Regulators were also the Fort Worth Sixers of the NIFL. Oklahoma Defenders
The Oklahoma Defenders were a professional indoor football team and a charter member of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL). Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Defenders played their home games at the Cox Business Center. It was announced in August 2014, that the team would go dark and cease all operation for the 2015 season, with the goal to return in the 2016 season. Many expect the team to fold and not return for the 2016 season. Nebraska Extreme
The Nebraska Extreme were an indoor football team that plays in the American Professional Football League. They started as the Omaha Extreme and played their 2006 season in the MIFL. They finished with a 5-3 record. In their second season, the Extreme played as an associate member of the APFL. Only scheduled to play one game against Springfield, they played three games after the Fort Worth Regulators folded. They played two games against the Springfield Wolfpack and one game against the Kansas Koyotes. Missouri Minutemen was an indoor football team that played in the American Professional Football League (APFL). The team started in 2003 as one of three original APFL teams. In 2003 and 2004, they played in the APFL Championship game, APFL Bowl I and II, losing to the Kansas Koyotes both times. From 2004 through 2006, the team played in Sedalia, Missouri. The Mid-Missouri Outlaws were a professional indoor football team which began play in 2006 and were a charter member of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League. Based in Sedalia, Missouri, the Outlaws played their home games at the Mathewson Exhibition Center at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. History The Outlaws joined the CPFL in 2006 as an expansion team before joining the American Professional Football League in 2010. The Outlaws played for three seasons in the APFL before joining the CPIFL for the 2013 season. The owners of the Outlaws were Chad Jackson, and Ethan and Trish Henson.
