The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis is a professional organization based in Bloomingdale, Illinois, dedicated to the use of hypnosis in clinical settings. Founded by Milton H. Erickson in 1957, ASCH (American Society of Clinical Hypnosis) is the largest U.S. organization for health and mental health care professionals using clinical hypnosis. Their "members are psychologists, psychiatrists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, mental health counselors, medical doctors, master's level nurses and dentists", according to the ASCH website. The goals of ASCH include: providing continuing education for professionals using hypnosis, raising public awareness of the benefits of hypnosis and dispelling of the many myths regarding hypnosis. Bloomingdale, Illinois
Bloomingdale is a village in DuPage County, Illinois, United States, settled in 1833, and 25 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The population was 22,382 at the 2020 census. History Bloomingdale is one of the earliest villages settled in what is now DuPage County. The Puzia family settled here in 1833, and by the end of the following year, 12 to 15 families had settled in the locality. It was originally named Meacham's Grove. The community was served by the Chicago-Galena Highway, modern day Lake Street. It became an important stop for stage coaches and westward travelers. Originally a Cook County settlement, it was annexed by DuPage County in 1839. The northern part of the village wanted to develop commercially while the southern part wished to remain a farming community. Hypnotherapy is a type of mind–body intervention in which hypnosis is used to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility in the treatment of a medical or psychological disorder or concern. Popularized by 17th and 18th century psychologists such as James Braid and Milton H. Erickson, today the use of hypnosis as a form of therapy to retrieve and integrate early trauma is controversial within the scientific mainstream. Use of hypnosis for treatment of other problems has produced mixed results, such as with smoking cessation. British Society Of Clinical Hypnosis
The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH) is an organization composed of professional hypnotherapists. The main objective the BSCH is to establish standards of training and ethical practice regarding the use of hypnosis and hypnotherapy; within the United Kingdom there are (2010) currently no statutory regulations regarding hypnosis. The society was created in the early 1980s and was originally called the Association of Clinical Hypnotherapists. This name was subsequently changed to the British Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists, until finally becoming the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis in 1996. It is a non-profit organisation.
