} ''American Don'' is the fourth studio album by American math rock band Don Caballero, released on Touch and Go in 2000. It was recorded by Steve Albini. It is the final album to feature bassist Eric Emm and guitarist Ian Williams. Background ''American Don'' is Don Caballero's fifth full-length release and fourth proper studio album, but many fans consider it the group's final album due to the falling out between Ian Williams and Damon Che, the group's creative core, after the release of the album. Che is actually the only original member of Don Caballero to play on this and all subsequent recordings. The photos of car accidents in the CD booklet proved prophetic, as this lineup of Don Caballero disbanded after being involved in a van accident while touring in support of ''American Don''. Don Caballero (often shortened by members as 'Don Cab') was an American instrumental rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Although the band has had numerous lineup changes with co-founder Damon Che (drums and percussion) being the only constant member, the band's 'classic' lineup consisted of Che, Ian Williams (guitar), Pat Morris (bass guitar), and Mike Banfield (guitar). Formed in 1991 as a trio, the band released two singles in 1992. Williams joined the band the same year during the production of their debut album ''For Respect'' which was released in 1993 to positive reviews. Morris shortly left after the album's release and was replaced by bassists Matt Jencik, George Draguns from 1993 to 1996 respectively. ''Chunklet'' is a Georgia-based American humor and music magazine founded by Henry H. Owings in 1993. History Henry Owings began publishing ''Chunklet'' in Athens, GA, while freelancing for alternative newsweekly '' Flagpole Magazine''. “The main reason the mag started was due to my dissatisfaction with how my writing was handled in the ''Flaghole'',” Owings says, although he has intimated that ''Chunklet'' is a sanctuary for self-hating critics. Electrical Audio is a recording studio, recording facility founded in Chicago, Illinois by musician and recording engineer Steve Albini in 1997. Hundreds of independent music projects have been recorded there. Unlike most producers, Albini refuses to take any royalties from musicians who record at the studio. Founded during an era of increasing popularity for digital recording, Electrical Audio was unusual for using only analog recording technology, including mixing consoles, tape recorders and many outboard sound effects. The rooms are also designed to offer natural reverberation rather than adding the quality in post-production. In a 2007 post on the studio's message board, the studio's technician Greg Norman revealed that the studio had acquired a Pro Tools rig for computer-aided recording and editing, saying it had become "as important to have as a piano". The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. Damon Che (born Damon Che Fitzgerald, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a rock drummer and guitarist. He has contributed to indie rock and progressive rock through his work with math rock pioneers Don Caballero since 1991. His style is heavily influenced by metal, hard rock, punk, jazz, and fusion. Che utilizes a hard-hitting yet flowing extrovert style of drumming. In Don Caballero, his drumming takes more of a lead instrument role than just keeping time. There are many instances where the guitars would act as rhythmic foundation, while Che soloed freely on top. Early career Che received his first drum kit at the age of fourteen. While in high school, he drummed for the new wave band Syndicate, and then co-founded the synthpop trio Pynknoys (1985-1986), where he sang, played drums, and programmed the drum machine.
