Amasa Sprague Jr.
Amasa Sprague (December 19, 1828 – August 2, 1902) was an American businessman and politician from Rhode Island. Born into an influential family, Sprague was a multi-millionaire textile industrialist until the Panic of 1873. He held various political offices in Rhode Island and was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Rhode Island in the 1886 election. Business Sprague was born on December 19, 1828 at the family residence in Cranston, Rhode Island. He attended public and private schools and the East Greenwich Academy. Following his father's murder in 1843, Sprague began to handle a large amount of responsibility for the A & W Sprague. After the death of his uncle William Sprague III, Sprague and his brother William Sprague IV took control of the family's mills. The horse (''Equus ferus caballus'') is a domesticated, one-toed, hoofed mammal. It belongs to the taxonomic family Equidae and is one of two extant subspecies of ''Equus ferus''. Cowesett is a hillside neighborhood located in Warwick, Rhode Island. Narragansett Park (1867–1924)
Narragansett Park was an American horse and motor racing venue in Cranston, Rhode Island. Horse racing Narragansett Park opened on July 31, 1867. The one-mile track was located on a 37-acre parcel of land 3 miles outside of Providence, Rhode Island. The park was constructed by Amasa Sprague, who previously operated Washington Park in Providence and decided to build his own park after falling out with his business partner Edward Babcock over gambling. The entry to the park featured a 30-foot high archway with two large towers on each side that served as ticket booths. The park's main building was four-stories high and contained a covered entryway where ladies could be picked up or dropped off by carriage. The first floor contained a pool room, a concession area, and a private office. Kansas
Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. 1st Rhode Island Cavalry Regiment
The 1st Rhode Island Cavalry Regiment was a cavalry regiment that participated in the American Civil War. They were badly routed at the Battle of Middleburg, a blemish on an otherwise competent combat record. History The 1st Rhode Island Cavalry Regiment was organized between December 1861 and March 1862 at Pawtucket as the 1st New England Cavalry. Late in that month, the regiment was sent to Washington D.C. and initially assigned to Hatch's cavalry brigade in Nathaniel Banks' V Corps in the Department of the Shenandoah. Throughout the war, the regiment would be a part of many reorganizations of the cavalry, although the majority of its service was with the Army of the Potomac. Most of the regiment's service in 1862 was in northern Virginia, where it served as scouts to determine enemy movements, as well as foraging for supplies and screening infantry movements.
