One of them was the father of the apostle James and the other the father of Matthew (Levi). Though both Matthew and James are described as being the "son of Alphaeus," there is no Biblical account of the two being called brothers, even in the same context where John and James or Peter and Andrew are described as being brothers. Saints Alphaeus and Zaccheus were two Christians who were put to death in Caesarea, Palestine, in 303 or 304, according to church historian Eusebius in his ''Martyrs of Palestine''. They are commemorated on November 18. Background There are two extant versions of Eusebius' ''Martyrs of Palestine'' and in both the shorter and the longer versions the stories of Alphaeus and Zaccheus are recounted, though with variations. Eusebius was present in Caesarea during the persecutions, part of the empire-wide campaign to suppress Christianity. Alphaeus Patterson
Alphaeus Patterson (March 15, 1856 – November 4, 1931) was a politician and businessman from Alberta, Canada. He was born in Kemptville, Ontario. Business Patterson founded a company with William Rae known as The Argonaut Company Ltd. in 1909 Patterson became President and Rae became the secretary-treasure. The company was primarily responsible for developing the site on Bear Creek that became modern Grande Prairie. In 1911 Patterson erected the first Store building in Grande Prairie the business was known as Paterson & Son as he ran the store and a post office from the same building with his son Jack O. Patterson. Politics Patterson was elected to the Alberta Legislature in the 1913 Alberta general election. Alpheus Hamilton Zulu (29 July 190526 August 1987) was an Anglican bishop in the second half of the 20th century. Educated at the University of South Africa, he was ordained in 1940. In 1948 he co-founded with the Revd Philip Mbata, '' Iviyo loFakazi bakaKristu'' (The Legion of Christ's Witnesses): a charismatic movement within the Anglican Church. Following a curacy at St Faith's Mission, Durban he was its priest in charge from 1952 to 1960 when he became a suffragan bishop of Diocese of St John's (called Assistant Bishop of St John's). Promotion to be the ninth bishop of Zululand then followed. Alpheus (crustacean)
''Alpheus'' is a genus of snapping shrimp of the family Alpheidae. This genus contains in excess of 291 species, making this the most species-rich genus of shrimp. Like other snapping shrimp, the claws of ''Alpheus'' are asymmetrical, with one of the claws enlarged for making a popping noise. Some species in the genus enter into symbiotic relationships with gobiid fishes, and others associate with sea anemones. It's also the noisiest of all sea creatures and can immobilize small fish with its high pitched frequency.
