Alness United F.C.
Alness United Football Club are a Scottish football club based in Alness, Highland. They currently compete in the North Caledonian Football League and play in black and white striped shirts with black shorts. The club has won the North Caledonian League on four occasions. Alness play their home games at Dalmore Park, previously on a grass pitch but in 2022 they moved to a new artificial turf pitch with floodlights adjacent to Alness Academy. They were given the Scottish Football Association's prestigious ''Quality Mark Development Award'' in July 2011. United took a year out in 2019–20 but returned to the North Caledonian League the following season, winning the one-off Division Two as the league split for the 2020–21 season to reduce fixtures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Alness
Alness (, ; gd, Alanais) is a town and civil parishes in Scotland, civil parish in Ross and Cromarty, Scotland. It lies near the mouth of the River Averon, near the Cromarty Firth, with the town of Invergordon 3 miles (5 km) to the east, and the village of Evanton 4 miles (6 km) to the south-west. The parish has a population of 5,310, although the census locality, which includes part of the parish of Rosskeen, has a population of 5,186. According to the Highland Council, the population of Alness has increased by around 20% since the last census in 2011. The population as of 2016 was 6,101. For most of the 1990s and early 2000s, Alness regularly entered and won flower competitions such as Scotland in Bloom, Britain in Bloom and others, winning many awards. Highland ( gd, A' Ghàidhealtachd, ; sco, Hieland) is a council area in the Scottish Highlands and is the largest local government area in the United Kingdom. It was the 7th most populous council area in Scotland at the 2011 census. It shares borders with the council areas of Aberdeenshire, Argyll and Bute, Moray and Perth and Kinross. The North Caledonian Football Association is a football association operating throughout the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and is a recognised body of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) and as such has its senior football competitions officially registered with the SFA. History The formation of the Inverness Junior Football Association on 31 January 1888 saw the introduction of the Inverness Junior Cup. After the final in 1888 the association was renamed the North of Scotland Junior Football Association and the competition the North of Scotland Junior Cup. Alness Academy
Alness Academy ( gd, Acadamaidh Alanais) is a secondary school in Alness, Highland (council area), Highland in the north on the Cromarty Firth of Scotland, serving the town of Alness and the villages of Evanton and Ardross. Along with five associated primary schools, it was one of the pilot New Community Schools in the Highlands. Originally built in the 1970s, it is one of the main schools in Ross-shire, with a school roll of 426. Alness GeoScience STEM club came 2nd In the Junior Saltire Awards in Glasgow, June 2015.
