''Almost Always Never'' is the third studio album by British blues rock musician Joanne Shaw Taylor. Recorded at Radio Milk in Austin, Texas with producer Mike McCarthy, it was released on 17 September 2012 by Ruf Records. The album reached number 20 on the UK Independent Albums Chart and was Taylor's first album to top the UK Jazz & Blues Albums Chart. Background After recording both ''White Sugar'' and '' Diamonds in the Dirt'' in Tennessee with Jim Gaines, Joanne Shaw Taylor worked with a new producer for the first time in her career on ''Almost Always Never'', recording in Austin, Texas with Mike McCarthy. Speaking about working with McCarthy, Taylor stated: "He pushed me out of my comfort zone, while allowing me to explore and embrace new territories whilst remaining true to who I am." Joanne Shaw Taylor (born 1985, England) is an English singer and guitarist. She was discovered by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics at the age of 16. Taylor's albums via Ruf Records, ''White Sugar'' (2009) and '' Diamonds in the Dirt'' (2010), peaked at No. 8 in the US on the ''Billboard'' Top Blues Albums chart. Her No. 1 album, ''The Blues Album'' (2021), was released via Joe Bonamassa's Keeping the Blues Alive Records. In 2010, Taylor won Best Female Vocalist at the British Blues Awards. The UK Independent Singles Breakers Chart and the UK Independent Album Breakers Chart are music charts based on UK sales of singles and albums released on independent record labels by musical artists who have never made the UK top 20. It is compiled weekly by the Official Charts Company (OCC), and is first published on their official website on Friday evenings. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. Howie Weinberg is an American audio mastering engineer with over 2,257 mastering credits, three TEC Awards, 21 Grammy Awards, two Juno Awards, and one Mercury Prize. Career Weinberg mastered Herbie Hancock's 1983 album ''Future Shock''. Other mastering works include the Beastie Boys' ''Licensed to Ill'' and Nirvana's ''Nevermind''. David Garza (pronounced Dah-veed; born February 4, 1971) is a Grammy winning Los Angeles based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, and visual artist. Biography A third-generation Mexican-American and Dallas-area native David Garza came to Austin in the fall of 1989 to attend the University of Texas. With his first band, The Happy Farmers, he opened shows for such Dallas Deep Ellum faves of the era as the New Bohemians, Ten Hands, and Fever in the Funkhouse at Club Dada.
