Alliance For The Republic (Nicaragua)
The Alliance for the Republic ( es, Alianza por la República - APRE) is a centre-right liberal-conservative Nicaraguan political party founded in 2004 by dissident liberals from the Constitutional Liberal Party (PLC) and the Conservative Party (PC) including Enrique Bolaños, who was President of Nicaragua at the time (10 January 2002 to 10 January 2007). APRE won 3 major offices (out of 152) in the 2004 municipal elections. For the 2006 Autonomous elections on the Caribbean Coast APRE lost four of its allies; the Conservative Party (PC), the Nicaraguan Democratic Movement (MDN) and the Social Conservative Party (PSC) to the Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance (ALN) and the National Unity Movement (MUN) to the Sandinista Renovation Movement (MRS). The Conservative Party () is a conservative political party in Nicaragua. Its slogan is “Dios, Orden, Justicia” (), often depicted on the three sides of a triangle. History The party is the oldest currently existing in Nicaragua. It was founded during the 19th century, as Nicaragua established itself as an independent republic, by members of the elite of Granada. As in many Latin American countries, a major political conflict took place between conservatives and liberals. During the 1840s and 1850s a nearly constant civil war took place between conservatives and liberals in Nicaragua. In 1857 the conservatives won, and dominated the country for 35 years. The Social Conservative Party (Spanish: ''Partido Social Conservador'' - PSC) is a right-wing conservative Nicaraguan political party founded by its leader Fernando Agüero in 1988. The PSC received legal status in 1989 and participated in the 1990 elections as an independent party. Fernando Agüero was the conservative presidential candidate of the 1966 National Opposition Union (UNO) against the Somoza regime. Enrique José Bolaños Geyer (; 13 May 1928 – 14 June 2021) was a Nicaraguan politician who served as President of Nicaragua from 10 January 2002 to 10 January 2007. From 1997 to 2002, Bolaños served as vice president under Arnoldo Alemán. On 4 November 2001 he defeated Daniel Ortega of the Sandinista National Liberation Front party in the presidential election and was sworn in as president on 10 January 2002.
