Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise
Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise (popular: ''Alliance Gastronomique'') is a culinary association of quality restaurants in the Netherlands and Flanders. The partnership was established in 1967 as a response to the spreading taste flattening, lack of culinary products and inadequate training of chefs and other restaurant staff. By that time the Netherlands were not known for their culinary tradition, so the partnership of the 19 founding restaurateurs was a break with the past. At that time the "Alliance Gastronomique" stated the promotion of the culinary culture in the Netherlands as its mission. ''Alliance Gastronomique'' is by now the oldest culinary partnership in Europe. The status it has earned, makes that the name alone now serves as quality seal. Restaurant ratings identify restaurants according to their quality, using notations such as stars or other symbols, or numbers. Stars are a familiar and popular symbol, with scales of one to three or five stars commonly used. Restaurant guides One of the best known guides is the Michelin series which award one to three stars to restaurants they perceive to be of high culinary merit. One star indicates a "very good restaurant"; two stars indicate a place "worth a detour"; three stars means "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey". Several bigger newspapers employ restaurant critics and publish online dining guides for the cities ...

Oegstgeest () is a town and municipality in the province of South Holland in the western Netherlands. Its population was in . Etymology The portion ''geest'' in the name refers to the geest lands, which were excavated in the seventeenth century for the benefit of the urban expansion of Leiden. In the Middle Ages they also spoke of the Church of Kerckwerve if one referred to the Oegstgeester parish church (now the Green Church). History Oegstgeest is one of the earliest inhabited places along the coast. Evidence of a Batavian ...
