Allen Jung
Allen Jung (August 8, 1909 – September 12, 1982) was an American film and television actor who was active in Hollywood from the 1930s through the 1970s. Biography Allen was born in Oakland, California. He attended the University of California, where he learned how to speak Japanese. He credited his education for preparing him to play Japanese roles. He also earned his pilot's license around this time. He began his career as an actor in the early 1930s; he was a member of the Chinese Cinema Players, an organization in Los Angeles. During World War II, he joined the U.S. Navy. He was married to Japanese actress Toshia Mori; he later married Helen Yu-Ling Wong in Shanghai. Toshia Mori
Toshia Mori (としあ もり) was a Japanese actress who had a brief career in American films during the late 1920s and 1930s. Born as Toshiye Ichioka (としえ いちおか) in Kyoto, Mori moved to the United States when she was 10. Early life and career Mori began her film career in silent films in the late 1920s. In '' Mr. Wu'' (1927) she was credited as Toshia Ichioka. In '' Streets of Shanghai'' (1927), she was credited as Toshiye Ichioka. In '' The Man Without a Face'', she was also credited as Toshiye Ichioka, her birth name. (The film is presumed lost.) Finally, she entered the sound era as Toshia Mori. Mori played Miss Ling in ''The Hatchet Man'' (1932). In the same year, she played another Chinese character, "Butterfly", in '' Roar of the Dragon'', an action-melodrama produced by David O. ''Mission to Moscow'' is a 1943 film directed by Michael Curtiz, based on the 1941 book by the former U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union, Joseph E. Davies. The movie chronicles the experiences of the second American ambassador to the Soviet Union and was made in response to a request by Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was made during World War II, when the Americans and Soviets were allies, and takes an extremely solicitous view of not only the USSR in general but of Stalinism and Stalinist repressions in particular. Plot Production Budd Boetticher was working as an assistant director at Columbia Pictures, notably to George Stevens on ''The More the Merrier''. Harry Cohn took a liking to Boetticher and got him to direct the last two days of filming. Boetticher said it was a 12-day picture and recalled "my God, I studied! I prepared every angle, I went over the script line by line, I prepared for those two days as if I were directing ''Gone With the Wind'', because I didn't have any talent for it."
