Allegany, Oregon
Allegany is an unincorporated community in Coos County, Oregon, United States. It lies at the upstream end of the Millicoma River, where the East Fork Millicoma River and West Fork Millicoma River join to form the main stem, a short tributary of the Coos River. Oregon Route 241 passes through Allegany. The community borders the Elliott State Forest. The Golden and Silver Falls State Natural Area is a state park northeast of Allegany. It features two waterfalls in an old-growth forest setting. History A post office was established at Allegany on March 25, 1893, and it is unknown why this spelling was chosen. Elliott State Forest
Elliott State Forest is a state forest in Coos and Douglas counties of the U.S. state of Oregon, between Coos Bay and Reedsport in the Oregon Coast Range. The first state forest established in Oregon, it is named after the state's first state forester Francis Elliott. Trees commonly found in this forest are the Douglas-fir, western hemlock, western redcedar, bigleaf maple, and red alder. More than 90 percent of the Elliott State Forest forms part of Oregon Common School Fund (CSF) lands devoted to supporting public education statewide. Oregon Route 241 (OR 241) is an Oregon state highway running from U.S. Route 101 (US 101) in Coos Bay to Nesika County Park in Coos County. OR 241 is known as the Coos River Highway No. 241 (see Oregon highways and routes). It is long and runs east–west, entirely within Coos County. OR 241 was established as part of Oregon's project to assign route numbers to highways that previously were not assigned. Route description OR 241 begins at the intersection of US 101 and Newport Avenue in an area known as Bunker Hill just south of Coos Bay.
