William Allain
William Aloysius Allain (February 14, 1928 – December 2, 2013) was an American politician and lawyer who held office as the 59th Governor of Mississippi as a Democrat from 1984 to 1988. Born in Adams County, Mississippi, he attended the University of Notre Dame and received a law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and practiced law in Natchez until he was appointed Assistant Attorney General of Mississippi in 1962. In 1979 he was elected Attorney General of Mississippi. In that capacity he fought utility rate increases and sued to have members of the Mississippi State Legislature removed from executive boards in state government. Allain ran for gubernatorial office in 1983. During the general election allegations emerged that Allain had engaged in sexual activity with transvestites. Marcel Allain (15 September 1885 – 25 August 1969) was a French writer mostly remembered today for his co-creation with Pierre Souvestre of the fictional arch-villain and master criminal Fantômas. Career The son of a bourgeois family, Allain studied law before becoming a journalist. He then became the assistant of Souvestre, who was already a well-known figure in literary circles. In 1909, the two men published their first novel, ''Le Rour''. Investigating Magistrate Germain Fuselier, later to become a recurring character in the Fantômas series, appears in the novel. Then, in February 1911, Allain and Souvestre embarked upon the ''Fantômas'' book series at the request of publisher Arthème Fayard, who wanted to create a new monthly pulp magazine. Early life Stephanie Allain was born in New Orleans to an African-American father Dr. Charles Allain, a biochemist, and a white mother Gwen Allain Miller, an educator. Rick Allain (born May 20, 1969) is a former Canadian ice hockey coach. Allain's coaching career followed three seasons as a defenceman for the Maine Mariners/Providence Bruins franchise in the American Hockey League. Coaching career Allain made the transition to coaching in 1997, when he spent a season as assistant coach for the Guelph Storm in the junior-level Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The following season he accepted the head coach position with the Peterborough Petes of the OHL, where he coached for six seasons, 1998–2004. Under his command the Petes had a record of 191–179–38. Keith Allain (born September 26, 1958) is an American ice hockey coach. He is currently the head coach of the Yale Bulldogs men's ice hockey team. He took over the program following Tim Taylor in 2006. In 2013, he led Yale to its first ever NCAA men's ice hockey National Championship. Pierre Allain
Pierre Allain (7 January 1904 – 19 December 2000) was a French alpinist who began climbing in the 1920s. In the 1930s he was joined by several others at Fontainebleau, where his group of "'Bleausards" developed a love of bouldering that went beyond simple training for the Alps. The famous Allain Angle (Grade (bouldering), V2 - V3), done in 1934, is a testament to their dedication and to the resulting elevation of standards. In Allain's 1949 book, ''Alpinisme et Competition'', he expresses his appreciation of this simple and understated climbing specialty. To facilitate the rock-climbing experience he developed – in the 1930s - the first rubber-soled, soft shoes specifically engineered for serious rock work. He wore these on the sandstone boulders as well as on the granite walls of the Alps, where he made several famous first ascents, including the north face of the Aiguille du Dru.
