All This Useless Beauty
''All This Useless Beauty'' is the seventeenth studio album by the English singer-songwriter Elvis Costello, released in 1996 by Warner Brothers. It peaked at number 28 on the UK album chart, and at No. 53 on the ''Billboard'' 200. It is his tenth and final album with his long-standing backing band known as 'The Attractions', and the last album he delivered under his contract to the Warner Brothers label, his contract expiring with a further compilation album, '' Extreme Honey''. Content In its original conception, the album was to be a two-disc set of songs written for other artists, entitled ''A Case for Song'', with backing by a diverse array of musicians, influenced by his participation in the 1995 Meltdown Festival. Aspects of this concept survived to the final album, as four songs previously released by others made it to the final track listing: " The Other End of the Telescope," co-written with Aimee Mann and originally recorded by 'Til Tuesday; "You Bowed Down," reco ...

Johnny Cash
John R. Cash (born J. R. Cash; February 26, 1932 – September 12, 2003) was an American country singer-songwriter. Much of Cash's music contained themes of sorrow, moral tribulation, and redemption, especially in the later stages of his career. He was known for his deep, calm bass-baritone voice, the distinctive sound of his Tennessee Three backing band characterized by train-like chugging guitar rhythms, a rebelliousness coupled with an increasingly somber and humble demeanor, free prison concerts, and a trademark all-black stage wardrobe which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black". Born to poor cotton farmers in Kingsland, Arkansas, Cash rose to fame during the mid-1950s in the burgeoning rockabilly scene in Memphis, Tennessee, after four years in the Air Force. He traditionally began his concerts by simply introducing himself, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash", followed by "Folsom Prison Blues", one of his signature songs. His other signature songs include "I Walk the Lin ...

'Til Tuesday
Til Tuesday (often stylized as til tuesday) was an American new wave band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. The band, consisting of Aimee Mann (lead vocals, bass), Robert Holmes (guitar), Joey Pesce (keyboards), and Michael Hausman (drums), was active from 1982 to 1989. They are best known for their 1985 hit single " Voices Carry". History 'Til Tuesday first gained fame six months after its formation when it won Boston's WBCN Rock & Roll Rumble in 1983. Their original composition " Love in a Vacuum" (credited to all members of the group) received a fair amount of airplay on the station, and the group was eventually signed to Epic Records. The Other End (Of The Telescope)
"The Other End (Of the Telescope)" is a song by American band 'Til Tuesday, which was released in 1988 on their third and final studio album '' Everything's Different Now''. The song was written by Aimee Mann and Elvis Costello. Costello recorded his own version of the song for his 1996 album ''All This Useless Beauty''. Writing "The Other End (Of the Telescope)" originated with Mann, who wrote the music and her own set of lyrics. She then sent the song to Costello and his main contribution was providing a new set of lyrics. He told ''The Guardian'' in 1996, " twas written with Aimee Mann, but we weren't in the room together. It's a bit like the song I wrote with Burt Bacharach recently; what I call mail order songs. Your partner sends you whatever part of the composition you're not writing, in this case the music. Mostly, my contribution was the words. It was specifically written for her and the situation she was in at the time. I kept the intro and then wrote a whole other sto ...
