AllJoyn
AllJoyn is an open source software framework that allows devices to communicate with other devices around them. A simple example would be a motion sensor letting a light bulb know no one is in the room it is lighting, so it can shut itself off. Originally the AllSeen Alliance promoted the project, from 2013 until 2016 when the alliance merged with the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF). In 2018 the source code became hosted by GitHub. History The AllJoyn technology was promoted by Qualcomm in 2011. In December 2013, Qualcomm signed over the source code and trademark to the Linux Foundation with the creation of the AllSeen Alliance. The alliance promoted interoperability for the Internet of things, and a number of consumer brands signed on including LG, Sharp Corporation, Haier, Panasonic, Sony, Electrolux, Sears and Arçelik. The Linux Foundation (LF) is a non-profit technology consortium founded in 2000 as a merger between Open Source Development Labs and the Free Standards Group to standardize Linux, support its growth, and promote its commercial adoption. Additionally, it hosts and promotes the collaborative development of open source software projects. It is a major force in promoting diversity and inclusion in both Linux and the wider open source software community. The foundation was launched in 2000, under the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) and became the organization it is today when OSDL merged with the Free Standards Group (FSG). The Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF) is an industry organization to develop standards, promote a set of interoperability guidelines, and provide a certification program for devices involved in the Internet of things (IoT). By 2016 it claimed to be one of the biggest industrial connectivity standards organizations for IoT. Its membership includes Samsung Electronics, Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm and Electrolux. The OCF delivers a framework that enables these requirements via a specification, a reference implementation and a certification program. IoTivity, the open source reference implementation of the specifications, is actively developed by different members of the OCF. Fon Wireless Ltd. is a for-profit company incorporated and registered in the United Kingdom that provides wireless services. Fon was founded in Madrid, Spain, in 2006, by Martín Varsavsky where it headquarters most of its operations. Fon started out by building its Wi-Fi network through devices called "foneras". Members, whom the company called "Foneros", agreed to share a part of their bandwidth as a Wi-Fi signal, so that they could connect to other members' hotspots.
