Aliyat Al-Shorta SC
Aliyat Al-Shorta Sport Club ( ar, نادي آليات الشرطة الرياضي, lit=''Police Machinery Sport Club'') is an Iraqi sports club based in Baghdad. Its football team plays in the Iraq Division Two. History The Aliyat Al-Shorta team was founded in 1961 by the Police Games Committee. They were promoted to the Iraq Central FA League top-flight in 1963 after winning the third and second divisions in succession, clinching promotion with a 3–1 win over Al-Omma after extra time on 29 June 1963. Aliyat Al-Shorta went on to become one of the strongest teams in the region under the management of Mohammed Najeeb Kaban, winning three top-flight league titles in a row ( 1967–68, 1968–69 and 1969–70) and leading the league in the 1966–67 season before it was cancelled. 1964–65 Iraq Central FA First Division
The 1964–65 Iraq Central FA First Division was the 17th season of the Iraq Central FA League (the top division of football in Baghdad and its neighbouring cities from 1948 to 1973). Maslahat Naqil Al-Rukab won the league title for the third time. Prior to the season, Al-Firqa Al-Khamisa won promotion by beating Shortat Al-Najda 2–0 to claim the second division title. Aliyat Al-Shorta player Shaker Ismail was the league's top scorer with seven goals. As champions and runners-up, Maslahat Naqil Al-Rukab and Aliyat Al-Shorta competed for the 1965 Iraq Central FA Perseverance Cup on 4 June at Al-Kashafa Stadium and Maslahat Naqil Al-Rukab won 1–0 after extra time with a goal by Qais Hameed to win the cup. The 1973–74 Iraqi National First Division was a football tournament organised by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) in the 1973–74 season, which was formed as the top-tier national league in Iraq to replace the Iraq Central FA League and the Basra, Kirkuk and Mosul leagues. The tournament began on 11 October 1973. Matches that ended in a draw were settled via penalty shootout (with no extra time), with the winner of the shootout earning one point. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya won the league title with a total of 23 points, and they also won the regional Iraq FA Baghdad Cup knockout tournament in the same season, led by coach Abdelilah Mohammed Hassan. From the 1974–75 season, the competition was replaced by the Iraqi National Clubs First Division which was only open to clubs and not institute-representative teams. It has teams in 17 different sports, more than any other Iraqi club, and the best known section of the club is the football team, whose origins date back to 1932. In 1974, following the Iraq Football Association's decision to implement a clubs-only policy for domestic competitions, Al-Shorta were established as a sports club. The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title.
