Alina Alexandra Dumitru
Alina Dumitru (; born 30 August 1982) is a Romanian judoka, one-time Olympic champion and eight-time European champion. At the Judo at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's 48 kg, 2008 Summer Olympics she defeated Japanese double gold medallist Ryoko Tani, who until then had been undefeated in major international competitions for 12 years. Career 2008 Summer Olympics Dumitru defeated the legendary five-time Olympian Ryoko Tani by "Waza-ari, keikoku" in a shocking Judo at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's 48 kg, –48 kg semifinal upset at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium. She controlled the five-minute showdown, maintaining her position with strong defense, refusing to budge or give her experienced foe a chance to mount a strong attack. It worked, as Tani lost points for passivity. Bucharest

World Judo Championships
The World Judo Championships are the highest level of international judo competition, along with the Olympic judo competition. The championships are held once every year (except the years when the Olympics take place) by the International Judo Federation, and qualified judoka compete in their respective categories as representatives of their home countries. Team competitions have also been held since 1994. The men's championships began in 1956, though the format and periodicity of the championships have changed over time.
