Aliagha Hasanov
Aliagha Hasanov ( az, Əliağa Həsənov; 1871–1933), also spelled as Ali Aga Hasanov, was an Azerbaijani statesman who served as Minister of Finance in the fourth cabinet of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, and was member of Parliament of Azerbaijan. Early years Hasanov was born in 1871 in Baku, Azerbaijan. He graduated from Baku City Commerce School. He was one of the co-founders of ''Nəşri-Maarif Society'' of Azerbaijan. Hasanov was then elected to the City Duma (Council) of Baku. As a wealthy businessman, he played an important role in construction of Şollar Water Channel, city sewage network and Baku Boulevard. Political career After establishment of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on 28 May 1918, Hasanov was elected to the National Assembly of Azerbaijan as an independent deputy. The Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan Republic ( az, Azərbaycan Respublikasının Maliyyə Nazirliyi) is a governmental agency within the Cabinet of Azerbaijan in charge of regulating the financial sector in Azerbaijan Republic. The ministry is headed by Samir Sharifov. History The office of Minister of Finance was established on May 18, 1918, when Azerbaijan Democratic Republic declared independence. The Minister of Finance was one of members of the first cabinet. The Ministry of Finance itself, however, was formally established on October 21, 1918. With incorporation of Azerbaijan into USSR, the Ministry of Finance was subdued to Soviet Ministry of Finances. The Red Army invasion of Azerbaijan, also known as the Sovietization or Soviet invasion of Azerbaijan, was a military campaign carried out by the 11th Army of Soviet Russia in April 1920 to install a new Soviet government in the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The invasion coincided with the anti-government insurrection staged by the local Azerbaijani Bolsheviks in the capital, Baku, and led to the dissolution of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the establishment of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic.
