Ali Jannati ( fa, علی جنتی, born 1949) is an Iranian politician and former diplomat who served as counselor to the head of Iranian presidential administration, in the second cabinet of Hassan Rouhani. He was minister of culture from 15 August 2013 until his resignation on 19 October 2016. Early life and education Jannati was born in 1949. He is the son of Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, head of Iranian Guardian Council and Tehran's interim prayer leader. He is a graduate of the Haqqani school in Qom. Career Jannati has had various positions in different public institutions of Iran. He began his career in the Revolutionary Guards as being commander-in-chief of Armed Forces in Khorasan Province. Then he was appointed governor general of Khuzestan Province. Ahmad Jannati
Ahmad Jannati ( fa, احمد جنتی, born 23 February 1927) is an Iranian conservative politician. He was born in Ladan, Isfahan. Jannati is known for his anti-LGBT rhetoric and opposition to secularism. He is also a founding member of the Haghani school of thought. Today, Jannati occupies two prominent posts in Iranian politics as chairman of the Assembly of Experts, the body charged with choosing the Supreme Leader, and as chairman of the Guardian Council, the body in charge of checking legislation approved by Majlis with the Constitution and '' sharia'', and approving the candidates in various elections. Haghani school (also Haqqani) is a Shi'i school of thought in Iran based in the holy city of Qom and formerly headed by Ayatollah Mohammad Taghi Mesbah Yazdi, an influential theologian. The Guardian Council, (also called Council of Guardians or Constitutional Council, fa, شورای نگهبان, Shourā-ye Negahbān) is an appointed and constitutionally mandated 12-member council that wields considerable power and influence in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
