Ali Bongo (magician)
William Oliver Wallace (8 December 1929 – 8 March 2009), known by his stage name Ali Bongo, was an English comedy magician and former president of The Magic Circle who performed an act in which he was known as the "Shriek of Araby". Early life Born as William Oliver Wallace in Bangalore, British India, where his father (also called William) was serving as a sergeant major with the 1st Battalion of the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment. Young William spent his early years on a British station in Trimulgherry, Secunderabad before going to Britain with his mother Lillian, at the age of seven. After William Wallace senior had ended his army service, the family moved to Sutton Valence in Kent and young William won a scholarship to Sutton Valence School, leaving at 16 to begin his career as an entertainer. ''Zokko!'' was a BBC television programme for children that ran for 26 episodes of 22 min duration between 1968 and 1970. It was devised by newcomer Paul Ciani and veteran children's TV producer Molly Cox and was ground-breaking in being the first children's "television comic". Produced by Thames Television for the ITV Network, the series first ran from 30 April 1973 to 19 February 1979. Tommy Trinder
Thomas Edward Trinder CBE (24 March 1909 – 10 July 1989) was an English stage, screen and radio comedian whose catchphrase was "You lucky people!". Described by cultural historian Matthew Sweet as "a cocky, front-of-cloth variety turn", he was one of the United Kingdom's foremost entertainers during the Second World War. Known for his confident and direct style of comedy, Trinder first found recognition with his music hall revues in the late 1930s. During the war, he worked for ENSA and maintained a successful film career, starring in a string of Ealing Studios films including '' Sailors Three'' (1940), '' Champagne Charlie'' (1944) and '' Bitter Springs'' (1950).
