Algot Magnuson Of Revsnes
Algot Magnuson, Lord of Räfsnäs (c. 1355 – c. 1426) was a medieval Swedish magnate. He served as castellan of the fortification of Styresholm at Kramfors and governor of Ångermanland. Biography Algot Magnuson was first mentioned in historical sources in 1374. He was born the son of Magnus Anundson Sture and Karin Algotsdotter, daughter of Algot Magnusson who belonged to the ancient Västergötland dynasty of justiciars. The family byname Sture, already of his father (this was an exceptional case of a hereditary byname, surname, being in real use in medieval Sweden), was not used of Algot. He was usually known as Algot of Räfsnäs. Through his marriage with Marta Bosdotter of Rigshult, Algot received new positions and moved from Westrogothia to the east-coast regions of Sweden: Ostrogothia and provinces around the Lake Mälaren. Styresholm
Styresholm was a medieval fortress near the present-day community of Kramfors. Today it is on the banks of the Ångermanälven, although in the 14th century it was on an island in the river, as the water level was some 5 metres higher than today. The fortress was built by the pirat group Victual Brothers, vitalien brothers in the late 14th century as one of a series of fortresses in the Gulf of Bothnia. Teutonic Order
The Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem, commonly known as the Teutonic Order, is a Catholic religious institution founded as a military society in Acre, Kingdom of Jerusalem. It was formed to aid Christians on their pilgrimages to the Holy Land and to establish hospitals. Its members have commonly been known as the Teutonic Knights, having a small voluntary and mercenary military membership, serving as a crusading military order for the protection of Christians in the Holy Land and the Baltics during the Middle Ages. Sten Sture the Elder ( sv, Sten Sture den äldre; 1440 – 14 December 1503) was a Swedish statesman and regent of Sweden from 1470–1497 and 1501–1503. As the leader of the victorious Swedish separatist forces against the royal unionist forces during the Battle of Brunkeberg in 1471, he weakened the Kalmar Union considerably and became the effective ruler of Sweden as Lord Regent for most of his remaining life. Kalmar
Kalmar (, , ) is a city in the southeast of Sweden, situated by the Baltic Sea. It had 36,392 inhabitants in 2010 and is the seat of Kalmar Municipality. It is also the capital of Kalmar County, which comprises 12 municipalities with a total of 236,399 inhabitants (2015). Vadstena Abbey
The Abbey Pax Mariae ( la, Monasterium sanctarum Mariæ Virgìnis et Brigidæ in Vatzstena), more commonly referred to as Vadstena Abbey, situated on Lake Vättern in the Diocese of Linköping, Sweden, was the motherhouse of the Bridgettine Order. The abbey started on one of the farms donated to it by the king, but the town of Vadstena grew up around it. It was active from 1346 until 1595. History Foundation and duration The abbey was founded in 1346 by Saint Bridget with the assistance of King Magnus IV of Sweden and his Queen Blanche, who made a will donating ten farms, including that of Vadstena in Dal Hundred, Östergötland, to the abbey founded by Bridget.
